If you asked most modern comics readers when the industry was putting out its best material, they'd probably reference the generally accepted high point of 1986-1987, and they'd have a pretty good case backing them up: "Crisis on Infinite Earths" was certainly the best example of continuity-as-storytelling and led to the great John Byrne relaunch of Superman, Walt Simonson's run on "Thor" was ramping up, and--of course--Alan Moore and Frank Miller were redefining comics with books like "Swamp Thing," "Watchmen," and "Dark Knight Returns
