DC has announced two new miniseries for 2017, each of which peeks into a previously unexplored piece of DC continuity; The Fall and Rise of Captain Atom, and The Odyssey of the Amazons.

In this installment, we cover Star Wars #9 by Jason Aaron and Stuart Immonen, Lando #4 by Charles Soule and Alex Maleev, Kanan #6 by Greg Weisman and Jacopo Camagni, issue #9 of Darth Vader from Kieron Gillen and Salvador Larroca and the debut issue of the post-Return of the Jedi miniseries, Shattered Empire, by Greg Rucka and Marco Checchetto.

Starbrand & Nightmask. It sounds like a two-stage rejuvenating skincare treatment, but it's actually the title of Marvel's newly announced ongoing series from writer Greg Weisman and artist Dominike 'Domo' Stanton, starring former Avengers writer Jonathan Hickman's young Marvel Universe versions of two New Universe concepts. These are characters who used to spend their time wiping out alien armadas with a blink of an eye, now they'll be enrolling on university courses and going on adventures. It's all a little unexpected. Settle in, and I'll try to explain.

Today we’re taking a look back at last month's books and seeing just how Star Wars-y they are. We'll look at Jason Aaron and John Cassaday's Star Wars #3, Mark Waid and the Dodson's Princess Leia #2, Kieron Gillen and Salvador Larroca's Darth Vader #3, as well as the first issue of the Star Wars: Rebels spin-off comic, Kanan: the Last Padawan, written by series producer Greg Weisman with art by Marvel pinch hitter Pepe Larraz.

Marvel is planning its first big cosmic event since the end of the Dan Abnett/Andy Lanning-penned Annihilation/War of Kings cycle that ran from 2006 to 2010. (Or last year's Infinity, if you count that, but that was all about Earth, so we don't.) Black Vortex will cross over between Guardians of the Galaxy, the space-bound All-New X-Men, Cyclops, Legendary Star-Lord, Nova, Captain Marvel, and more. Marvel also announced Operation S.I.N., by Kathryn Immonen and Rich Ellis, which serves as both a prequel of sorts to the recent Original Sin event and a tie-in to Marvel's Agent Carter TV show; and Kanan: The Last Padawan, a five issue mini series also written by Greg Weisman and illustrated by Pepe Larraz, tying in to the Star Wars: Rebels animated series.
