There’s Something For Everyone in Marvel Legends’ Latest Lines [NYCC 2016]

Marvel Legends Spider-Man Sandman BAF Sandman

It wouldn't be a comic convention without Hasbro coming to town to show off its latest and greatest in the Marvel Legends line. It wouldn't be a comic convention without Hasbro coming to town to show off its latest and greatest in the Marvel Legends line. Though you would think the Marvel Legends team wouldn't have much left to show after the deluge of reveals from San Diego Comic-Con, the smattering of new figures unveiled at New York Comic-Con somehow managed to rival the awe of those other newcomers despite the smaller roster.

We caught up with Marvel Legends senior design manager Dwight Stall to talk about the announcements, and where the line was headed in 2017 and beyond.

Marvel Legends Opens a Hole to the Spider-Verse [Review]

Hasbro Marvel Legends Spider-Man - Space Venom Build-a-Figure Series

Hasbro hasn't been bashful about dropping Spider-Man Marvel Legends waves a few times a year. Alongside the Avengers, Spidey has provided the foundation on which the Marvel Legends collections these past few years have been built. With that in mind, it's getting to be a bit of a challenge to find new versions of Spider-Man to include.

Using Spider-Verse as a bit of inspiration, Hasbro's turned out a terrifically diverse set that gives us a new twist on Peter Parker, Miles Morales and Venom --- all characters that have been seen in the Legends line before. Coupled with those three, we also get our first Silk, a fantastic Electro and a delightfully creepy Hobgoblin. In a year when we were fast approaching Spider-saturation, Hasbro found a way to keep things fresh.

Marvel Legends’ Captain America Brings Some Friends to Fight the Iron Skull [Review]

Hasbro Marvel Legends Captain America - Abomination Build-a-Figure Series

This year has been all about Captain America over in the Marvel Legends world. That kind of thing tends to happen when you're the star of a blockbuster film that perfectly fits within the Hasbro toy line's purview. On his third wave of the year, Hasbro has turned to some unexpected characters to fill out the roster. Though some have been characters fans have been waiting to see for years, others quite curiously make the cut in a time when nobody could have seen them coming --- Toy Fair previews notwithstanding.

Since this is the third Captain America line in the last 12 months, it also happens to be the weakest of the bunch. Ordinarily, a collection of characters like this might rate a little bit better, but having to follow the likes of Cap Wolf and Mockingbird or Black Panther and Nick Fury means this bunch of characters had an uphill battle from the get go.

Nothing Can Stop the Juggernaut Except Maybe All These Marvel Legends X-Men Figures [Review]

Marvel Legends X-Men - Juggernaut Build-a-Figure Series

It's been a long time since the Marvel Legends toy line has dabbled with the likes of the X-Men. There have been a few lines here and there, but the frequency of Avengers and Spider-Man series has drowned out the past efforts rather loudly. This most recent wave of figures bodes well for the future of X-Men at Hasbro though. The last time we saw the X-Men, it was a smaller set with a Build-a-Jubilee available only at Toys 'R Us. This wave is available everywhere, and it's huge.

I don't just mean there are a lot of figures --- there are eight in total --- I mean it's physically massive. That's thanks in part to the Build-a-Figure being Juggernaut, who is among the biggest BAFs offered in the line. Still, eight figures is about as big as a collections in the Marvel Legends line get, but it's hard to be disappointed when the roster is as strong as this one.

Transformers Generations Titans Return Titan Force is Easier to Transform Than Say Five Times Fast [Review]

Transformers Generations Titans Return Titan Force

You can always count on Hasbro for some Transformers exclusives at San Diego Comic-Con, and this past year was no exception. There were not one, not two, but three different exclusives offered this year. We tackled Soundwave already, but today we're turning our eye towards the Transformers Generations Titans Return Titan Force set, which is certainly a mouthful.

The set is fortuitously timed to release alongside the new Titans, like Fortress Maximus who also made his debut at SDCC, and includes some new decos for existing figures Windblade, Sentinel Prime and Brainstorm. Sure, this is another Windblade in the long line of SDCC Windblade exclusives, but this set still manages to have plenty of appeal.

Enter to Win a Hasbro Transformers Soundwave SDCC Exclusive Figure

Hasbro

Want to feel old? The Decepticon Soundwave is a tablet now. We remember a simpler time, when the big blue brute was really into mixtapes. Now, he's really into first-party apps. Millenials ruin everything, even your nostalgia. Actually, scratch that; millenials don't ruin anything, especially not toys, and especially not toy giveaways.

To prove just how strong our love for Transformers still is after all these years, we're giving you the chance to walk away with one of Hasbro's 2016 San Diego Comic-Con exclusive figures. And yeah, it's a Soundwave Tablet figure.

You Won’t Believe How Easily Soundwave Transforms Into a Tablet [Review]

Hasbro Takara Soundwave Tablet SDCC Exclusive

Ahead of San Diego Comic-Con, Hasbro revealed a new Soundwave figure that transformed into a tablet instead of the more familiar cassette player. Not one to traditionally scoff at the idea of modernizing characters from the '80s that had clearly become outdated, I balked at the idea that a Transformer toy could possibly be a tablet. It's not that a Cybertronian citizen couldn't become whatever it wanted to; it's just that a tablet is so thin it would be virtually impossible to get any form or function out of a toy that tried to mimic such minimal proportions.

Boy was I wrong.

Hasbro’s GI Joe and the Transformers Set is a Sticker-filled Throwback [Review]

GI Joe vs Transfomers Set

It's been a long time since I added any new GI Joe figures to my ancient collection. For a long time, GI Joe was pretty much the only action figure series I was devoted to, but that was more than two dozen years ago. I remember playing with those toys for hours on hours, days on days. GI Joe was the be all and end all when it came to my childhood. Okay, sure there were probably more than a fair share of Transformers in the mix, too (Hot Rod 4 Lyfe], which made one of Hasbro's San Diego Comic-Con exclusives particularly adept at tugging on my nostalgia strings.

Additionally, the set released hot on the heels of the conclusion to Transformers vs GI Joe, IDW's absolutely brilliant event from Tom Scioli and John Barber. Though this set isn't tied to the comic in any way, the timing was spot on for those of us who'd been reading the comic and were still jonesing for that next toys-as-comics fix.
