There's a great old gag from The Simpsons in which Homer, who's trying out to be a member of the secret society the Stonecutters, is going through an initiation ceremony that involves him getting hit in the butt with paddles over and over. The members of the group keep doing the same thing to him, but they call it different names, like "Crossing the Desert" and "The Unblinking Eye."
It looks like Capcom's recently released DuckTales Remastered isn't the only game in town when it comes to adventuring with Uncle Scrooge and Launchpad. Disney has rolled out an all-new and all-different kind of game featuring Duckburg's wealthiest resident called DuckTales: Scrooge's Loot on iOS and Android. Unlike the DuckTales games on NES and Game Boy and the new DTR, Scrooge's Loot isn't a sidescrolling adventure title, but rather a 3D multiplayer battle game complete with feathered customizable characters. Considering this is a game starring the miserly McDuck, it's also a bit surprising to find out the mobile title is free.
There's quite a few capacitive stylus options on the market for iPad (3, 4 and Mini) users, but Wacom will leverage the pressure-sensitivity of its Intuos brand starting this October with the release of the $99 Intuos Creative Stylus at Wacom's eStore and Best Buy stores. Wacom says it'll sport 2048 levels of pressure by way of Bluetooth 4.0 and the pen's tip, which like most capacitive stylus pens is covered by swappable silicon nibs. So far, the new stylus is confirmed to be optimized for use in Wacom's own free Bamboo app, along with the iOS versions of SketchBook Pro, ArtRage, ProCreate and Psykopaint.
A few weeks back, we covered the announcement of Archie: Betty or Veronica, a new mobile game for iOS in which everyone's favorite crosshatch-haired teen was tasked with rebuilding his hometown, piece by piece and tap by tap. Last week, the game was finally released, and now, I've had some time to play around with it.
The verdict? It's definitely one of those mobile games where you send people off to do tasks for hours on end and then come back later when it's done unless you want to pay to speed things up... but it's also one that does a pretty great job of capturing what's great about Archie Comics.
I was already a pretty big fan of The Devastator, the quarterly comedy mag that's featured CA favorites like Michael Kupperman, but now, they have turned their attention to doing something truly altruistic. With San Diego's Comic-Con International coming up next week, they've released a mobile game for iOS called Comic-Con Star Stalker, a free time-waster designed to give you something to do in those long, long panel lines.
I didn't really care for Man of Steel, but I'll admit that I made one huge mistake when I saw it. I was so blinded by my feelings about the movie itself, that I forgot to focus on the true magic that always happens when a new blockbuster superhero movie comes out: the magic of hilariously copyright-infringing iPhone apps. They always put a smile on my face and a spring in my step, but I hadn't even gone to look until CA editor Caleb Goellner sent over a link to A Super Boy Of Steel Run Free.
I've been a pretty big fan of Archie Comics for quite a while now, but it's always bugged me that I've been relegated to the role of a passive observer. No matter how many comics I read, I can't warn Archie of the folly of making two dates at once, or encourage Jughead to maybe mix things up with a salad now and then. Now, however, that is all about to change, as the Archie: Betty or Veronica? game for iOS will give me absolute, godlike control of Riverdale itself!
With its Iron Man 3 mobile tie-in video game set to debut on iOS and Android devices on April 25, Gameloft has released yet another trailer for the endless runner. In the freemium Iron Man 3 - the Official Game, players will "Control Stark Industries" and have the a
