We’ve a few months yet to see if Marvel’s Iron Fist is up to the task of standing alongside the Netflix Defenders, but an early sneak peek should help tide things over. Meet Danny Rand, Colleen Wing and the Meachums, and check in with Claire with new photos from the March 2017 release.

Long before Finn Jones was cast in the role of Netflix’s Iron Fist, Marvel made headlines with reports that it considered casting actors of Asian descent for the title character. That didn’t come to pass, nor did Marvel improve matters with certain Doctor Strange castings, to which Iron Fist star and Danny Rand auditionee Lewis Tan admits “I’m not the biggest fan of that casting choice.”

Marvel has yet to introduce us to its Netflix Iron Fist cast onscreen, making it difficult to generate the same excitement of joining The Defenders teamup series. Fortunately, we can at least confirm Jessica Henwick’s Colleen Wing will take part in the four-way miniseries, and there’s a spinoff waiting in the wings if we ever heard one.

Hard to believe we’ve already gotten to the point of Marvel’s Netflix heroes teaming up, with with Defenders production looming, our first director has hit the scene. Jessica Jones helmer S.J. Clarkson will pickup directorial duties on not one, but two of the eight-part Defenders series.

We knew that no other Defenders series would quite match Luke Cage for soundtrack, but Iron Fist at least looks to be in good hands for its March premiere. Emmy-winning Vikings composer Trevor Morris will helm the first season of Marvel’s final Defender, according to reports.

The recent release of Luke Cage may have crystallized how out of touch Marvel’s Defenders series feel with the current MCU film slate, a problem not likely to get better with Doctor Strange splitting New York into multiple dimensions. Timing makes it difficult to write any of the four Netflix stars into the films, but with Infinity War on the horizon, new comments from Kevin Feige again dash our hopes.

Especially after the breakout success of Luke Cage, fans of Marvel’s Netflix Defenders have understandable reservations about Iron Fist measuring up, with another martial arts figure in a less-diverse cast. Star Finn Jones wants fans to reserve their judgement, however, promising the series will acknowledge its troublesome ‘70s origins.
