‘Adventure Time’ Head Writer Kent Osborne Teams With Mad Rupert For ‘Banana Guard Academy’ Miniseries

ADVENTURE TIME- BANANA GUARD ACADEMY
Boom! Studios

A number of the Adventure Time animated series' most popular supporting characters have taken the spotlight across Boom! Studios' numerous comic book miniseries and backup stories, but only one hero could pull series head writer Kent Osborne from the show to its comic book incarnation: Root Beer Guy. Well, him and the Candy Kingdom's collective Banana Guard police force, anyway. This July Osborne makes his AT comic debut alongside artist Mad Rupert (Regular Show: Skips) for Adventure Time: Banana Guard Academy #1, the first of a six-issue miniseries exploring the world of law and order in Ooo.

Rigby, Mordecai, Benson and Skips Descend Into The Cave Of The Destruction Lord In ‘Regular Show: Skips’ #6 [Preview]

Regular Show: Skips #6, kaboom

Listen, I've never had a job that required being outside. This is my blessing. The closest I've come to that is dragging long boxes out to a van at 8 a.m. so that we can get on the road to convention, and even then, I mostly just stayed inside and pretended to pick things up while secretly playing Ace Attorney games where no one could see me. I was just in it for the breakfast, folks.

What I'm getting at is that I don't understand why anyone would actually want to work in a park, let alone why they would keep working in a park even as things around them obtain lethal levels of magical realism. At some point you just gotta quit, right? But that, I suppose, is why I am not one of the stars of Regular Show, because those dudes are always ready to delve down into a cave to face off against the Destruction Lord -- which is exactly what happens in next week's Regular Show: Skips #6, the spin-off series by Mad Rupert focusing on the Park's immortal yeti groundskeeper. Check out a preview below!

Time’s Up In ‘Regular Show: Skips’ #5 [Preview]

Regular Show Skips 5 Preview
Boom! Studios

It's early yet, but I'm calling it: Regular Show: Skips #5 -- the second-to-last issue in the miniseries -- has my favorite panel of the month... or at very least my favorite portent of destruction. That's not to say I think writer and artist Mad Rupert is going to make the book's hero fail on his mission to save his friends (and their vacation) from a horrible time loop using high tech equipment and the unique skills he's obtained as an immortal -- but for my money nothing beats watching a gumball machine with anger issues predict oblivion. You can see for yourself in our preview of the issue, which is out this week from Boom! Studios with covers by Rupert, Felicia Choo, Monica Ray and Jimmy Giegerich.

After three issues of painstakingly fighting to save the Regular Show crew from a time-loop fueled catastrophe, everyone's favorite Mark Hamill-voiced immortal park groundskeeper is finally gearing up to (hopefully) save the day. But first? Skips will need the right accessories. Writer and artist Mad Rupert is set to supply the hero with the tools he needs in next week's Regular Show: Skips #4, which features wacky Time Police inventions aplenty.

Don't you just hate it when your vacation turns into a time-loop addled adventure of mystery complete with corrupt cops? Modrecai and Rigby's immortal buddy and oftentimes mentor Skips does, and it's going to be plain to see next Wednesday, January 8 in Regular Show: Skips #3 by Mad Rupert and colorist Whitney Cogar. Featuring covers by Rupert, Corey Lewis (Sharknife), Paulina Ganucheau (Zodiac Starforce) and Michael DeForge (Ant Colony), the issue sees the plot thicken to molasses levels as the miniseries reach its halfway point.

The Working Vacation Continues In ‘Regular Show: Skips’ #2 [Preview]

Regular-Show-Skips-2-Preview
Boom! Studios

Mad Rupert's Regular Show romp continues this Wednesday, December 11, with Regular Show: Skips #2 and things are about to get even more hectic for the book's immortal star. As hard as it is to watch the usually unflappable Skips succumb to stress, his crew of Mordecai, Rigby, Benson, Muscle Man, Pops and Hi-Five Ghost are going to be glad he's joined them on vacation as the strangeness plaguing their trip becomes more apparent. Or will they even be aware of his heroism? It's hard to say when Skips encounters a problem he can't say "I've seen this before" about.

Mad Rupert Hops To Writing And Illustrating ‘Regular Show: Skips’ [Interview]

regularshowskips1_main

Regular Show's super strong immortal sage (who just so happens to be voiced by Mark Hamill) is about to step into the comic book spotlight. This November Boom! Studios will roll out Regular Show: Skips #1, written and illustrated by Mad Rupert (Saskana, Adventure Time). Set to show the RS world from Skips' point of view, the story sees Pops reward Mordecai, Rigby and the rest of the crew with a mini-vacation for all their hard work at the park. Thanks to the antics of his coworkers, though, Skips probably won't quite get the rest and relaxation he deserves for bailing his buds out of trouble time and time again. ComicsAlliance got in touch with Rupert to learn more about what readers can expect in the issue, how the artist got into Regular Show, and just how much she loves pugs.
