With almost 300 issues in the core series, Archie's Sonic The Hedgehog stands as the longest-running uninterrupted American monthly comic book that's currently being published. In Hedging Your Bets, I attempt to get up to speed on Sonic the Hedgehog, challenging the odds to hopefully make it all the way to the finish line. This week, it's the shocking death of --- wait, no. Looks like he's not dead after all. Sorry to worry you.

Last summer's Mega Drive one-shot celebrated Sonic's 25th anniversary with a classic style adventure that serves as a showcase for the book and its creative teams. Now Archie is doing another one, in which Sonic and his pals head off on an adventure through a delightfully snowy winter wonderland and a spooky, scary forest. Check out a preview!

I may not know much about Sonic The Hedgehog, but there's one interesting little piece of trivia about the comics that I am absolutely fascinated by. Despite the fact that DC has recently returned Action Comics and Detective Comics to their original numbering, placing them somewhere in the mid-900s, the core Sonic the Hedgehog comic stands at 285 issues and counting as the longest-running monthly American comic book that has not been rebooted, renumbered, or otherwise restarted. It's been on the stands every month since 1993! Throw in all the spin-off titles, and that means that there's a lot of Sonic content out there. So much so, in fact, that with Sonic Universe hitting #89 next week, there's enough Sonic content out there that the reprint-focused Sonic Super Digest is on its 17th issue. So why not celebrate the continued reign of a blue hedgehog who runs fast with a preview of both titles?

It's been a long time coming, but the temporary end of Archie's Mega Man comic is almost here. Over the last five years, we've been there through thick and thin with the Blue Bomber, and it's going to be strange not to have him around on a regular basis after Mega Man #55 hits. That said, the creative team is going all with this finale, introducing a host of new worlds for the first time in comic book form. While Mega Man won't be gone forever (Archie Comics is promising this is just a temporary reprieve), there's no telling just when he'll return either. It's fitting then that this issue is dubbed "Everlasting Peace," as the original game's opening cheered the blue champion on to "fight for everlasting peace!" It seems that after 54 issues of tackling Dr. Wily's most nefarious plans, Rock has finally accomplished that goal.

While Sonic the Hedgehog has been working to keep his world from falling apart, somewhere in time, Silver the Hedgehog has been trying to put his back together. The time-traveling hero has been flittering through all kinds of timelines during "The Silver Age" storyline that's been running in Sonic Universe these past few months, but he might soon find some answers to help him on his quest. What could possibly happen next for Silver? You can find out in this advanced look at next week's issue. Courtesy of Archie Comics, we've got an exclusive preview of the next chapter of "The Silver Age" taking place in Sonic Universe #81, including a special "To the Future" variant cover from Adam Bryce Thomas.

Break Man Takes The Spotlight In 'Mega Man' #54 [Preview]
If you were a child in the '90s whose primary source of news was a subscription to Nintendo Power, then there were few things more thrilling than the saga of Break Man. When he first showed up in Mega Man III as an occasional obstacle and a mysterious plot device at the end, and was eventually revealed to be Mega Man's brother, it was probably the single greatest bit of drama in the series since the invention of running left-to-right and jumping. And not surprisingly, it's something that Archie's Mega Man comics have done a pretty fantastic job handling over the past four years. Now, as the series winds down, Break Man (aka Proto Man, aka Blues) is taking the spotlight for "Red Shift," a prologue story for the events of Mega Man IV, with a whole lot of questions about the nature of his existence. You know, for the kids! Check out an exclusive preview!
