You may recall a rumor from a few weeks back that suggested several members of the lineup for Josh Boone’s New Mutants movie, and although that rumor was predictably denied by Fox, Boone seemingly confirmed those characters for his X-Men spinoff just last week. We can add another rumored character to the confirmed pile, as producer Simon Kinberg has revealed that Professor X does indeed have a role in New Mutants, which could begin filming early next year.

While The Stand is on hold due to a rights issue, filmmaker Josh Boone is keeping busy with plenty of other projects, including another Stephen King adaptation (Revival), a new film based on Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, and — last but not least — New Mutants. There's been plenty of speculation regarding the official roster in the X-Men spinoff, but if Boone's latest series of Instagram posts is to be believed, his mutant team may have just been revealed.

Bill Sienkiewicz (that's "sin-KEV-itch") was born on May 3, 1958. He's an artist best known for Moon Knight and New Mutants, but his work changed popular notions of what superhero art could be. In the early 1980s, mainstream comics art basically looked like one thing. Certainly there was no shortage of brilliant artists, and each had their own recognizable style — it's no challenge to tell Neal Adams from John Byrne from Jim Starlin — but everything fit into a relatively narrow framework of representational depictions and traditionally heroic figures.

Just last month, a big rumor suggested that Josh Boone’s New Mutants movie was eyeing Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams and The Witch breakout Anya Taylor-Joy to star in the X-Men spinoff, with Alexandra Shipp in talks to reprise her role as young Storm from Apocalypse. Fox has predictably denied these rumors, Williams herself sorta-kinda confirms it in a new interview, though it sounds like nothing is close to official as of yet.

Following the record-breaking success of Deadpool, Fox is officially moving ahead with their New Mutants spinoff with Josh Boone set to direct based on a script he’s co-writing with Knate Gwaltney. The first cast and character details have reportedly arrived, with at least one X-Men: Apocalypse newcomer joining the fray alongside Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams and The Witch breakout Anya Taylor-Joy.

Quick apology to some of the newer X-Men: Sorry, newbies, you need a few more years of being feared, hated, and undervalued to beat these… winners?

Fox has announced a potential new direction for its enduring X-Men movie franchise, and it's one that should please a lot of comics fans. The studio has signed a deal with The Fault In Our Stars director Josh Boone to co-write and direct New Mutants, starring a junior team of mutant heroes. Boone will co-write the film with Knate Gwaltney, and X-Men movie stalwarts Simon Kinberg and Laura Shuler-Donner will produce. The movie will surely draw heavily on the comics, but its cast won't necessarily be limited to characters that served in the original New Mutants line-up, or even in later versions of the team. There are decades of Westchester student mutants to choose from. In order to make the filmmakers' choices a little easier, we want you to pick the characters you'd most like to see on screen.
