Bring Home a Life-Size Batfleck With Hot Toys' New Armored Batman Statue
For the past year or so, Hot Toys has been teasing life-size statues of its licensed figures from the Marvel, Star Wars and DC Comics universes. Though the gigantic pieces have typically been "display only" and never put up for sale, there was always a feeling Hot Toys was taking the temperature of fan interest in taking a giant Chris Evans or Hulkbuster home. Given Hot Toys' adoration of Iron Man, many speculated a life-size Tony Stark would be the first to make the leap to the consumer market. That's not the case however, and today Hot Toys surprised everyone by revealing the life-size Armored Batman as the first in this new 1:1 scale series. Now I've stuck up for the look of this suit despite my general feelings of malaise towards Dawn of Justice, and that holds true to this larger version as well. The armored batsuit is well-designed armor outfit that's hard to find fault with... to a degree. It's pretty damn accurate to the comic it's based on, and like I've said before, it maintains Batman's striking silhouette even though it's a giant metal suit. When kept at the 1:1 size ratio, which makes Batman here a hefty 6' 4", the more questionable design elements stand out a bit more. I'm talking about that cod piece.

Does Your Wallet Bleed? It Will For This Hot Toys Armored Batman
"Do you bleed?" It's easily one of the more ridiculous things Batman has ever said in print or on film. Especially when you throw on that weird robot voice filter that Batfleck is using to disguise his identity. Still, as convoluted as Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice looks, and weird as some of the decisions on the direction on the film have been, there are some things BvS appears to be getting right. Though the main batsuit looks like a duct tape and Ace bandage nightmare, the armored suit Batman dons to take on the Man of Steel looks rather impressive and pays proper tribute to The Dark Knight Returns. Its transition to toys has been better than the standard suit, too, as this new Hot Toys figure can attest. The regular Batman figure from Hot Toys BvS line looks like someone stuffed Ben Affleck into a few garbage bags, then filled out the extra space with sweatsocks. He looked lumpy and not at all like an actual human being. Here, that problem is alleviated by the form-fitting armor. You don't have to worry about the fabric suit, and the machined pieces bring a refined genius to the look. Batman's been around the block. He saw things when he still wore the traditional outfit of his youth, and this armored get up isn't just a deterrent against Superman, it's the only way the aging normie can stand toe-to-toe with an adversary that isn't in his 50s. All the while, the suit is wholly in line with Batman's aesthetic, and won't be mistaken for some other hero's style.

Sideshow's Skeletor Brings the Enemy of Eternia to Life
Last year, Sideshow teased the first two statues in its Masters of the Universe premium format line, He-Man and Skeletor. Prince Adam's alter ego got his formal debut in the fall, but we've been waiting for Hordak's most infamous student to get his proper reveal since July's San Diego Comic-Con. Now, just in time for the ending of the age of Aquarius, the skull-headed foe is finally ready to make his grand entrance. Skeletor's got a much more complicated and convoluted history than He-Man does, as the hero of Eternia has primarily stayed true to his roots throughout the various iterations of Masters of the Universe. As He-Man's main adversary, Skeletor's gone through numerous changes not just to his backstory, but also his look. Like the previous statue in the line, Skeletor here has been designed by Stjepan Sejic, who's done a tremendous job staying true to the character's origins while giving him a slightly more realistic fantasy bent.

Do you like Iron Man\? I like Iron Man. He's a cool guy and doesn't seem afraid of anything. Especially in the movies. That must be why Hot Toys has committed so much of its bandwidth to continually pumping out new Iron Man figures with such regularity. That and the fact that all of the Iron Man Hot Toys figures sell like pancakes at an all you can eat pancake festival. While some have merely been repaints of identical builds, the upcoming MK XV armor from Iron Man 3 looks unlike anything we've seen from the company before.

La Vie, L'Armor: Sideshow's Lex Luthor Statue Suits Up
Is it the suit that makes the man, or the man that makes the suit? In Lex Luthor's case, it's probably a bit of both. The guy is one of the smartest in the DC Universe, but all the brains in the world can't help him take on Superman mano a alieno. (Yes, hand-to-alien; shush pedants.) That's what drives him, in part, to develop his big, bad power suit. Sure, the suit itself didn't come around until the '80s, meaning it took Lex almost 30 years to realize he'd need some assistance to take on the Man of Steel, but all that matters is that he got there eventually. While Luthor and his bold purple and green power armor have been celebrated with action figures as far back as Super Powers in 1984, the LexCorp founder hasn't been captured quite like he has in Sideshow Collectibles' latest statue. Co-designed by Kris Anka, who's had his hand in many of Sideshow's DC Premium Format Figures, Lex stands atop a LexCorp building, poised to give Superman his comeuppance. Just look at that smarmy bastard. It's hard not to admire that unflinching confidence in the face of a man (from another planet) who is clearly better than you.

Sideshow's Captain Marvel Statue Stands Ready to Save the Galaxy
Carol Danvers is poised to have a big year. Captain Marvel might not be getting a movie in 2016 like so many of her Marvel counterparts, but she's got a great ongoing series and will play a major role in the upcoming Civil War II comic event. While she's had a few action figures over the course of the last year, the Avenger hasn't gotten the high gloss treatment befitting the hero that defends Earth and space. I don't know you if you know this, but space, it's infinite. Takes a special kind of person to say, "We must protect this house!" when that house is as vast and wide as every galaxy in the known universe. This year, Sideshow is giving the Captain her due with a new premium format figure. She might look a little different than you're used to seeing though. The statue puts her recently tweaked costume through a few more alterations, adding a bit more star flare and giving that sash an interesting new direction. She's still got that bad-ass attitude and some on-point eyeliner though. Seriously, Carol looks more than ready to take on the world, she looks ready to take on the universe. Which, as I said before, is a good thing because the universe is magnificent and cold and needs someone like Captain Marvel to keep it together.

Dark Phoenix Returns as a Statue From Sideshow Collectibles
It's been just a shade over 25 years since the Dark Phoenix Saga changed the X-Men forever. Though Jean Grey isn't exactly a regular fixture in the X-comics these days... well, the Jean Grey that got Phoenix'd isn't around anyway. She went on to merge with the Phoenix Force and kind of exists on a higher plane or some such thing, but that young version from the original team is around because of time travel reasons. You know, typical X-manning. Regardless of which version of Jean is around, the Phoenix/Dark Phoenix version has long been a fan-favorite incarnation. It's hard to argue with that costume design. It was probably the first time Jean actually got an outfit that wasn't fairly ridiculous. While the current Jean might be kicking around trying to not live up to the legacy she will one day create back in the past (just thinking about this stuff gives me a headache), there's a reason original recipe Jean is the one getting a statue from Sideshow. It's because she rules.

Oh, you didn't think Hot Toys was going to let the Merc with a Mouth get his own movie and not get a highly-articulated sixth-scale figure to go along with it, did you? I mean, it's not like anyone actually likes Deadpool and is anticipating this movie with any kind of fervor at all. Then again, Ant-Man got a number of figures from Hot Toys, and Deadpool is easily as mildly popular as that guy who shrinks his size. Plus, Deadpool's movie won't be held back by The Man, and will get the R-rating all those kids who love the squiggly wingdings Marvel's letterers use to signify Wade Wilson's propensity for profanity have dreamed about since they read their first Deadpool stories. You know, only without the squiggly wingdings.

Sideshow Gets Groovy With New Evil Dead 2 Ash Figure
Though Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn could be considered a soft reboot of the first film because so many events repeat, it's got enough going for it to make it one of the most memorable cult horror hits of the '80s. Evil Dead 2 not only led us to Army of Darkness, the quintessential slapstick horror movie every teenage boy loves to quote, but it also laid the real foundation for fan-favorite actor Bruce Campbell's career. Evil Dead 2 wouldn't have happened without Evil Dead, but without Evil Dead 2, Bruce Campbell would have just been that guy that shows up in Sam Raimi films as a friendly cameo, and we probably wouldn't have Ash vs. Evil Dead. Most importantly though, without Evil Dead 2, we wouldn't have a bunch of kick-ass toys of a dude with a chainsaw for a hand.

Finn Takes on the First Order in Hot Toys' Latest Star Wars Set
Say what you will about Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but you can't deny the awesome power of all the incredible new characters. I enjoyed the movie quite a bit, and it was largely due to how much excitement the new blood brought to the screen. While Hot Toys has been slowly rolling out figures both new and old for the Star Wars license, its latest announcement brings about a figure I thought we'd never get. Sure, Finn was an obvious choice to get a sixth-scale toy, as he's all over the marketing and the world has fallen head over heels for John Boyega (and his maybe lover, Poe, played by Oscar Issac. I know I ship it.). But even Finn isn't the film's most perfect character. That privilege lies solely in the arms, baton and shield of the Riot Control Stormtrooper, TR-80RZ. I know that's not his real First Order designation, but a if a guy can dream about what Finn and Poe are doing after hours, he can sure dream about the name of a fictional soldier being all too apt.
