Superman Lives is one of those great projects that might have been, like Alejandro Jodorowsky’s Dune or Richard Stanley’s The Island of Dr. Moreau — like both of those films, Superman Lives now has its very own documentary examining the film that never was and the speculation surrounding it. A new clip from The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened? features never before seen footage of Nicolas Cage’s costume test in which the actor wears a version of the Superman suit.
Metalocalypse director Jon Schnepp went well beyond his $98,000 Kickstarter goal earlier this year to produce a movie about the abandoned Tim Burton/Nicolas Cage film Superman Lives. Now, a new teaser trailer for the doc, The Death of Superman Lives, proves that at least the movie about the movie is really happening next summer, and will include interviews with Grant Morrison, Mark Waid, and perhaps even Cage himself. You can see the full video update about the upcoming documentary, after the jump.

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's long-haired, strangely dramatic stoner Superman! Yes, Nicolas Cage's Superman fetish is well-documented -- he even named his son Kal-El -- and it's no secret that he was angling for the role of the Man of Steel for years.
