It’s been a great week for those of us who are really excited for Thor: Ragnarok: between Thor’s new #look, and Jeff Goldblum’s… everything, this movie might be the most entertaining, visuals-wise, Marvel has ever made. And it also might be among the funniest: it’s described as a kind of buddy road trip comedy with Thor and Bruce Banner/Hulk traveling the Universe and stirring up trouble, and Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo historically have some of the funniest moments in the previous Avengers films (“Another!”/“Puny god.”). Couple that with New Zealand’s achingly hysterical Taika Waititi, and you’ve got a pretty potent combo.

New ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Plot Details Revealed
There was a whole lot to take in from the first official Thor: Ragnarok photos, which debuted yesterday and revealed Cate Blanchett’s goth-y villain, Jeff Goldblum’s eccentric Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson’s warrior Valkyrie and, oh yeah, Thor’s super-short new haircut. Some big changes are afoot in the nine realms, and we’re not just talking about Thor’s makeover; director Taika Waititi has created a more colorful, more humorous return to Asgard, and after seeing those first photos, we’re sure you have lots of questions about the plot of Ragnarok.

That first official look at Thor: Ragnarok may have been a bit of a shock to the system — Chris Hemsworth’s haircut should come with a warning label. But now that we’ve all gotten acclimated to this radical (and rad because that magazine cover was so very ’90s) change, how about even more new photos from the Thor sequel? Loki returns, Jeff Goldblum gets spacey, and Cate Blanchett goes full mystical-goth in these additional sneak peeks from Taika Waititi’s highly-anticipated sequel.

The latest issue of EW offers our first official look at the cast of Thor: Rangarok, and it’s certainly different — which actually might be a pretty good thing. The previous two films are widely considered lesser MCU entries, but with Taika Waititi behind the camera and promising a more humorous god of thunder, we’re looking forward to seeing a different side of Thor. That side is definitely present on this magazine cover, which also features Cate Blanchett as the villainous Hela and Tessa Thompson as the warrior Valkyrie.

It doesn’t matter if you’re some regular schmo or the Asgardian God of Thunder, living by yourself can get a little lonely. Thank Odin for Darryl, then, the milquetoast desk-jockey roommate of the Avengers’ resident hammer-thrower Thor. We first met the mild-mannered pencil-pusher in a short called “Team Thor,” directed by upcoming Ragnarok helmer Taika Waititi and bundled as an extra with the Captain America: Civil War home media release. That amusing glimpse into the tensions between the two cohabitants was a fan favorite, not to mention a brief preview of the comic sensibility that What We Do in the Shadows (another film about roommates sniping at one another) director Waititi would bring to the Marvel universe.

In what is surely the most glorious rumor of the week, the Blu-ray details for Marvel’s Doctor Strange have apparently leaked online, and among the special features listed is perhaps the most special of all — something titled “Team Thor: Part 2,” which appears to be a follow-up to the hilarious mockumentary short that debuted at last year’s Comic-Con. Marvel isn’t releasing the Blu-ray until February 28, which means our fingers are going to be pretty stiff from all the crossing they’ll be doing until then.

Okay, so it’s not an official still from Thor: Ragnarok, but Marvel was kind enough to kick off the New Year with a new behind-the-scenes image featuring Chris Hemsworth’s mighty Asgardian hero and director Taika Waititi (looking very…director-y). The studio also unveiled the first official plot synopsis for the upcoming sequel, which confirms a bunch of stuff we already know while reaffirming our faith in Ragnarok as the first great Thor movie.
