Even months before the movie was released, it was pretty obvious that Thor had no real place in Captain America: Civil War. That film was rooted in political intrigue and manipulation of trust; Chris Hemsworth’s Thor is really more of the Mary Poppins of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, not really worrying so much about the day-to-day and just popping in whenever he’s needed the most. To remain true to the character, there was no scenario in which Thor did not just roll his eyes and head back to Asgard until the whole thing had blown over.

Set photos — both official and otherwise — from the set of Thor: Ragnarok continue to hit the internet, and the latest batch feature the return of another familiar face, though he’s not looking quite how you remember him. With most of Ragnarok taking place in Asgard and its various unearthly realms, it’s kind of surprising to see Anthony Hopkins in costume on the streets of New York City, looking like he’s in need of some spare change. (And a change of clothes. And a shower.)

Is Chris Hemsworth’s Thor looking for a new primary care physician? Probably not, but he might be looking for a certain doctor.

While many fans of the Thor movies gravitate towards the charismatic villainy of Tom Hiddleston  —  and for very good reason  —  I’ve always secretly had a thing for Lady Sif and the Warriors Three. Thor’s faithful allies have never gotten a tremendous amount of screen time, but they have always been there when things get a little out of hand, ready to throw down against frost demons, alien armies, and disloyal Asgardians alike.

Cate Blanchett’s Hela isn’t the only villain Thor and The Hulk will have to contend with in Thor: Ragnarok. Our favorite mischief-maker will also be on hand to stir up some trouble, and you can get your first look at Loki’s return courtesy of the man himself, as Tom Hiddleston has graciously shared a new behind-the-scenes photo from the set of Marvel’s upcoming sequel.

Taika Waititi didn’t have footage to show from Thor: Ragnarok during Marvel’s Comic-Con panel a couple of weeks ago (though he did show a delightful short film) — you know, since he’s only been filming the sequel for about a month. So it might seem a little surprising that Mark Ruffalo has already wrapped his part in the upcoming film, which sees the Hulk teaming up with Thor for what the actor has described as a buddy road movie. Is Ruffalo’s part smaller than we thought?

Marvel really delivered the goods at Comic-Con last weekend, and while the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 footage got everyone in Hall H pretty pumped, nothing was as awesome as the short film Taika Waititi made for Thor: Ragnarok. Although that footage hasn’t made its way online (and probably won’t anytime soon), Waititi has shared a couple of pieces from the short, which shows us what Thor was up to while the Avengers were off fighting in their big Civil War.

San Diego Comic-Con saved the biggest news for last. Marvel’s panel is the last big film panel in Hall H this year, and we’re bound to get some huge news on everything from ‘Doctor Strange’ to ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ to ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.’

Thor: Ragnarok is set to be one heck of a film based on the information revealed so far, with a killer cast including Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Cate Blanchett as Hela, and Jeff Goldblum as The Grandmaster. We've already heard from Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo that the film is going to be a cosmic buddy movie between Thor and The Hulk, and today at San Diego Comic Con we received more information about what that might mean as Marvel unveiled a very familiar set of armor for the Jade Giant. In a post on Twitter, Marvel's Agent M unveiled the Gladiator Hulk armor made famous in Greg Pak and Carlo Pagulayan's insta-classic "Planet Hulk" storyline. In the original story, The Illuminati (Iron Man, Mister Fantastic, Black Bolt and Doctor Strange) decided to send The Hulk off to space where he could live out his days on an idyllic and uninhibited planet.

If you heard a distant rumble of thunder in the distance over the holiday weekend, it might not have been inclement weather on the horizon. Marvel’s Thunder God is back.
