The Flash Season 2’s focus on another Earth has allowed any number of expired characters to return, leaving Robbie Amell’s Ronnie Raymond a prime candidate after the October premiere. Now, new set photos have revealed Amell’s return as his fiery alter-ego, but are we seeing Earth-2, or something more complex?

You’re warned of potential spoilers for 2016 episodes of The Flash from here on out, but where Ronnie’s ambiguous end all-but-guaranteed that Robbie Amell’s return would come from an Earth-2 Ronnie, set photos seemingly confirm it. A new Canadagraphs shot sees Amell back in the Firestorm suit (despite the fact that our Martin Stein is off saving Tomorrow with a new better half), though his appearance has grown significantly darker.

It’s a bit difficult to keep track of, as while the most recent 2016 preview confirmed Barry, Cisco and the gang would venture to Earth-2 themselves at some point, it isn’t clear if Barry will take on a disguise, or actually encounter his alternate self. Adding to that is the apparent Earth-2 appearance of Caitlin Snow in her Killer Frost guise, an evil twist which could perhaps illuminate why her Earth-1 husband took a more nefarious turn in Earth-2.

In the meantime, so reads The Flash Season 2 synopsis for January 19 return “Potential Energy”:

JOE AND IRIS GET TO KNOW WALLY — Now that they’ve grown closer, Barry (Grant Gustin) considers telling Patty (guest star Shantel VanSanten) that he is The Flash. Meanwhile, Joe (Jesse L. Martin) and Iris (Candice Patton) try to get to know Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale), and the team hunts down a meta-human who can slow time itself.

You can check out the latest trailers below, but might Firestorm have broken bad in another universe? Are even sure Ronnie died for real the first time around?
