An epic war between the forces of good and evil is about to unfold on Hulu. The heroes and villains' weapons of choice? Magical shoes. That's more or less the entire premise behind Jon M. Chu's ("Step Up 3D") new Web series "The League of Extraordinary Dancers," which kicks off today online. Yeah, I want to crack wise, but so far the story isn't much weirder than any given superhero story.

Let's just let the show's official synopsis do its thing:

The next evolution of dance begins in the groundbreaking, provocative first installment of "The LXD: The Uprising Begins." From visionary writer/director Jon M. Chu ("STEP UP 3D"), "The Uprising Begins" chronicles the journey of seemingly ordinary people who discover they have extraordinary powers and must choose their place in an epic war between good and evil.

While the premise doesn't seem quite as groundbreaking as the promotional material might suggest (MC Hammer's Hammerman, anyone?), I'll reserve judgment until I catch the first episode tonight on Hulu. Episodes are supposed to be light on dialogue, which could be good or bad depending on how the cast (which includes "Glee" star Harry Shum Jr.) does with its non-dancing bits.
