Today is shaping up to be quite a wonderful day: the Season 2 premiere of Serial, a trailer announcement for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, this picture of Keanu Reeves that popped up in my Twitter feed…oh, and Cate Blanchett, Queen of Earth, is in talks to join Thor: Ragnarok. Cate Blanchett in the MCU? What a time to be alive.

Per Variety, the two-time Academy Award-winning actress and star of Carol is in talks to play one of the franchise’s new leading ladies in Thor: Ragnarok opposite Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk and Tom Hiddleston’s Loki. The specific character is unknown, though Valkyrie has been rumored to have a role in the film — and doesn’t Cate Blanchett totally look like a Valkyrie to you?

It’s quite possible that the actress could be playing a human character or an elder in Asgard, but we’d much rather see her pick up a sword and lead her own army in Thor’s next battle.

Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) is directing Thor: Ragnarok from a screenplay by Stephany Folsom. No other details are known at this time.

Blanchett was recently nominated for SAG and Golden Globe awards for her role in Todd Haynes’ stunning period drama Carol, with an Oscar nomination likely just around the corner. The actress previously appeared in similarly action-fantasy-heavy films in The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings series, but maybe this time she’ll get to do more of the action stuff in the action-fantasy equation.

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3, 2017.
