The shape of Marvel Studios' second Thor movie, Thor: The Dark World, continues to take shape with the announcement that a familiar face to genre fans has joined the cast, playing a favorite character for those who read Walt Simonson's classic run on the series.Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, known to many as Lost's Mr. Eko, has reportedly signed on to the upcoming production to play Algrim the Strong, the dark elf given the difficult task of killing Thor only to end up surviving his own near-death experience and reborn as the amnesiac Kurse, complete with super-strength and magical armor that makes him invulnerable.

Algrim's appearance underscores the likelihood that Chris Helmsworth's third outing as Marvel's God of Thunder will draw heavily from the much-loved Simonson run on the Mighty Thor series from the 1980s; we already know that Malekith the Accursed -- Algrim's boss, essentially -- will also appear in the movie, played by Christopher Eccleston, as will Skurge, another character who received a lot of attention during Simonson's tenure as writer and artist (Casino Royale villain Mads Mikkelsen is said to be taking that part). All we need now is the Enchantress to join the party and we'll be all set...

Thor: The Dark World is due to be released in the US on November 8, 2013.
