Brian Cronin's "Comic Book Legends Revealed" is a treasure trove of behind-the-scenes information about the rumors and legends that circulate in comics, and whether or not they hold water. His latest post regards "Uncanny X-Men #401," an issue from 2002 where Wolverine encounters no less than Bill Clinton doing kinky things with a mutant prostitute.

Well, the rumor was that in the original script, it was then-NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani caught with his pants down, not Clinton -- and it turns out it's true. Cronin posts both the images from the final comic and portions of the original script, which include a few choice lines:

In the middle of the bed, completely laid out on his back, spread eagle like a sexual slave, is Rudolph Giuliani... Wolverine walks over to the bed, in the flickering candlelight. Giuliani doesn't even register his presence. Wolverine is looking down at the Mayor, disgusted.

Cronin theorizes that the switch was the result of post-9/11 politics that made Giuliani untouchable, which makes a lot of sense.
