The conclusion of Bill Willingham and Mark Buckingham's Fables in July of last year after a 150-issue run left Vertigo without one of the last of its long-running tentpole books --- so in the spirit of Sandman and 100 Bullets before it, it's no surprise that Vertigo wants to tap back in to the world of one of its most successful series. A new Fables spinoff will launch this September with the title Everafter: From The Pages of Fables.

Written by Matthew Sturges and Dave Justus, and drawn by Travis Moore --- the same team that adapted the award-winning Fables: The Wolf Among Us videogame to comics in 2014 --- and with covers by Tula LotayEverafter is pitched as a fantastical spy thriller taking place after the conclusion of Fables

The series centers on The Shadow Players, a covert-ops network with both Fable and human agents that are, as Vertigo's press release puts it, "policing a newly enchanted world and protecting humanity from itself." The press also notes that the book will feature fan-favorite characters, including Bo Peep, Peter Piper, Hansel, and Connor Wolf, and well as introducing new heroes and villains.

Justus described the story as having "a uniquely Vertigo flair, filled with twists, double-crosses, and agents willing to give their lives for (fairy) queen and (goblin) country!"

Willingham has given his blessing to the new book and its creators. He promises readers, "There are some terrific surprises ahead in a world that is no longer mundy. What happens in a world that now knows about Fables and the sharp rise of magic in their midst? Everafter is going to show us."

Everafter will be available digitally and in print this September.
