'Heroes' star Milo Ventimiglia, who has dabbled in comics before with 'Rest' and the upcoming 'Berseker,' is bringing a trademark (or cliche?) of comics fandom to life with 'Ultradome,' a web series where famous characters face off against each other to answer the age-old comics question of Who Would Win?

"My whole life has been spent engaged with friends in intellectual debate ... like whether Captain Kirk is tougher than Spock or if Middle Earth is a more difficult place to live than Tatooine," said Ventimiglia at The Hollywood Reporter. "With 'Ultradome,' we can bring these debates to the public and settle them in the most logical way possible: through armed combat."

Bear in mind, however, that it's not going to be CGI versions of these characters facing off -- or even 'Celebrity Deathmatch'-style claymation -- it's going to fans dressed up like the characters, though they will get character-appropriate weapons or skills via special effects. Personally, I question whether this methodology wil definitively determine whether Batman could beat Superman (he could), though, rather than determining whether Fan #1 can beat Fan #2.

The first episode pits 'Lord of the Rings' against 'Star Wars,' with Ventimiglia representing Tolkien and co. Details of the battle have not been released, but we can only hope that the long-dreamed-of Frodo vs. R2D2 battle will soon be at hand.
