NBC entered the comic drama realm once before, and will soon be at a loss for the supernatural flair of Grimm, so why not do both? Top Cow comic Witchblade will soon take a stab at a second live-action TV adaptation, as NBC develops a new series from CSI and Vampire Diaries alum.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, the script-committed series is based on the Marc Silvestri graphic novel of the same name, with CSI alum Carol Mendelsohn and soon-to-be-former Vampire Diaries showrunner Caroline Driesthe taking point. The property was previously adapted to a live-action TNT series in 2001, while the new synopsis reads:

Based on the graphic novel of the same name, the Sony Pictures Television drama centers on homicide detective Sara Pezzini, on the hunt for an elusive serial killer, who must navigate the grisly streets and police politics of San Francisco’s Mission District — until one day the bracelet she has worn her entire life gives her supernatural insight into a crime she’s trying to solve. Her bracelet is the Witchblade, an amulet that has been worn by remarkable women throughout history, and Sara is next in line.

It’s early yet, but could another Witchblade adaptation break through the clutter as NBC starts hitting a stride?
