Although James McAvoy’s Charles Xavier has sported a healthy head of hair in the recent X-Men films, we all knew the kindly mutant professor would have to lose all that hair pretty soon. Professor X’s bald head is a trademark, and it’s one we’ll get to see on the big screen in X-Men: Apocalypse, as promised in this new behind the scenes image.

Bryan Singer has been regularly posting updates from the upcoming film to his Instagram account, and his latest photo delivers James McAvoy with a freshly-shaven head:

McAvoy looks rather serious in the photo, like he’s perfecting his stern, confronting-mutant-villainy face. It’s a good look for him. Apocalypse leaps forward from the ‘70s to the ‘80s, but it’s kind of hard to believe that Professor X would lose his entire head of hair in such a short time. Running that school for gifted mutant youngsters appears to be as stressful as the U.S. presidency.

The new installment in the franchise ditches the older cast in favor of the First Class crew with a few new additions: Sophie Turner as young Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan as young Scott Summers/Cyclops, Olivia Munn as Psylocke, Lana Condor as Jubilee, and Alexandra Shipp as young Storm.

There’s also the titular villain, Apocalypse, played by Oscar Isaac, and rumors of appearances from Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Channing Tatum’s Gambit.

X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27, 2016.
