It's that rare time of year when the realms of (popular) professional sports overlap, thinning the boundaries between their respective realities to translucent levels. When the combined fannery of baseball, basketball, football and hockey intersect, the fabric of time and space is ravaged in such a way that the 1991's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Sewer Sports All-Stars" poke their way through the wormhole.

Don't remember when Donatello, Leonardo, Raphael and Michelangelo traded their ninja weapons for faux sports equipment and did a whole lot of nothing? Allow me to bring you up to speed!

Yeah, I've been pretty hard on Playmates of late, but only they had the gumption to suit up the green machines and make them fail spectacularly at human sports.

There were six turtles in all, each with a miserable accessory that served only to prove their incompetence. Raphael in particular is singled out for unsuccessfully playing tee ball, which Phillies fans may appreciate given how similar his uniform resembles that of the Yankees.

Celebrate 2009's sportstopia after the jump...

Let's see Nickelodeon do that!
