The dead could soon be walking onto a sound stage now that AMC has given the greenlight to its "The Walking Dead" option - well, beginning with a pilot anyway.

According to Variety, AMC's moving forward with adapting Robert Kirkman's zombie drama pilot under the eye of writer/director Frank Darabont. Serving as executive producers are Valhalla Motion Pictures' Gale Anne Hurd and Circle of Confusion's David Alpert.

Both Hurd and Alpert have a history adapting comics to screens of various sizes. Hurd's resume is among the beefiest in the biz, with a hand in both Hulk and Punisher franchises while Alpert's currently involved with an adaptation of Rick Remender's "Night Mary."

Although the juicier info - like who's been cast to star in the pilot - is still unavailable, as we reported the past summer, we already know who Kirkman wants...
