DC Comics' in-houseish toy company DC Direct has really expanded its operation of late producing non-DC and video game toys including Blizzard's "World of Warcraft" and BioWare's "Mass Effect 2" lines. That's why when it comes to the news that the company will be producing action figures based on the hugely successful "Batman: Arkham Asylum" video game, most fans' reaction is likely, "What took so long?"

The official news will break in next month's June issue of Toy Fare according to Kotaku, with full details and images expected.

In keeping with DC Direct's seemingly standard practices of late, I'd expect the first wave to include four figures...maybe Batman, the Joker, Bane and Harley Quinn? Other strong contenders are Poison Ivy, Oracle and Commissioner Gordon, although they might be more likely to be included in a second - or third - wave.

With "Batman: Arkham Asylum 2" in the works, however, all-new (especially those that existed off-camera in BAA 1) characters could likely be in the running as well.
