‘Apocalypse Meow’ is About to Get Real

"Cat Sh!t One," better known as "Apocalypse Meow" in North America, is about to finally get real. As reported by Aintitcool and verified by the official CSO Web site, the first CGI episode from Studio Anima is on its way to an August completion date with a release slated for sometime later in 2010.

Adapted from the CSO war manga by Motofumi Kobayashi, the series will follow a team of cuddly-looking anthropomorphic soldiers as they complete highly dangerous military missions. Just like in Art Spiegelman's "Maus," each human nationality is depicted by a specific animal - in the United States' case, rabbits. The series was originally set in the Vietnam War, followed by a sequel in '80s Afghanistan. Judging from the trailer, the animated series could feature a more contemporary war zone.

ADV published the "Apocalypse Meow" manga before its 2009 collapse, meaning it would be up to another publisher to print tie-in titles should the animated series be imported to the US down the road. Currently no plans are in motion on either end, but we'll keep our eyes bright and our tails bushy should details develop.
