Stuart Immonen Channels ‘Little Nemo’ in Superman Villain Origins [Art]

It's been a long time since DC Comics fans got to see the uniformly excellent results of what happens when Stuart Immonen draws their favorite superheroes. The artist has spent a lot of the past many years at Marvel Comics, drawing superlative runs on books like Nextwave and Ultimate Spider-Man, but much of his 1990s work was at DC, on titles including Action Comics and Adventures of Superman. Unfortunately, most of Immonen's DC material is available only in the form of back-issues.

As part of a personal project to re-read the Superman era that began with John Byrne's 1987 reboot, Man of Steel, cartoonist Jon Morris has unearthed an incredible find that many Immonen fans have probably never seen: short origin stories for Superman's villains created in the iconic style of Winsor McCay's Little Nemo in Slumberland. Originally appearing in 1998's Superman Secret Files and Origins #1, the six pieces are illustrations of "fairy tales" Lex Luthor tells his little daughter Lena, and include the origins of Metallo, Brainiac, Doomsday, the Cyborg, Toyman and, of course, Luthor himself.
