The one-year anniversary of Ethan and Malachai Nicolle's webcomic force of nature Axe Cop inspired a bevy of celebratory activities this week. Among the most prominent was last night's special signing of Dark Horse's collected AC at L.A.'s Meltdown Comics where an Australian fan film was premiered for those in attendance. Axe fans, that fan short is now online, and guess what? It's what you want.Acting as a shot-for-shot live action adaptation of the brothers Nicolle's debut installment of Axe Cop, the short by Australian fans Peter Muehlenberg, Afrim Memed and Anthony Koreny manages to build upon the strip's own magic by seamlessly integrating original transitions between panels. Of course, it doesn't hurt that William Emmons and Peter Flaherty pull off their respective Axe Cop and Flute Cop/Dinosaur Soldier roles with flying chopping colors. In fact, if I didn't know any better, I'd wager they were the real deal brought to our reality through a magical portal.

What's more, the trio included the musical stylings of Stepdad, who let loose an unofficial AC theme song just weeks after the series began.

I'm not sure it's reasonable to beg for the team to recreate all 80-and-counting AC chapters (plus the upcoming Axe Cop: Bad Guy Earth mini coming from Dark Horse in March), but with any luck, we'll at least see a few more installments.
