Marvel Comics let loose a few key announcements at Fan Expo Canada this weekend, including the news that Fred Van Lente and Kyle Hotz were teaming for the five-issue Destroyers series, that Brian Wood would be writing an unspecified project for Marvel in 2012, and that Van Lente, Greg Pak and Dale Eaglesham's Alpha Flight has been upgraded to an ongoing. As demonstrated by early teasers this past week, Destroyers will see Marvel's same-named WWII hero assemble brawlers like the Thing, She-Hulk, A-Bomb, Devil Dinosaur, Beast and more in a battle against less friendly monsters trying to trigger the extinction of mankind at the behest of a long-standing Marvel villain. Not that the heroes need much incentive to save the world, but The Destroyer will be sweetening the pot by offering cures to each of the afflicted heroes' personal appearance woes.

Alpha Flight's jump from a limited series to a full-on monthly was credited to fan loyalty at Marvel.com. Van Lente and Pak noted that they have story details worked out for the book's first 12 issues, and teased upcoming appearances by Wolverine, Captain Britain and Taskmaster.

Marvel's teaser image for Brian Wood's upcoming project seems to indicate he'll be writing Wolverine in some capacity, although Vin Diesel/Ice Cube fans shouldn't rule out the "XXX" motif at the center of the claw marks... okay, totally rule that out.
