‘Ghost in the Shell’ Review: An Empty Shell With Nothing to Say
There’s a huge problem at the center of Ghost in the Shell. You already knew that, though. You’ve heard about the whitewashing controversy and the problems of co-opting Asian culture for western audiences. But as bad as you might have heard that whitewashing problem is, it’s even worse. It’s impossible to discuss the movie’s troubled treatment of identity politics without spoiling some big reveals, but before we get into those, there are plenty of other things that make the live-action remake a disappointment.
New ‘Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets’ Trailer Is as Wacky and Wild as You’d Imagine
When you sit down for a new Luc Besson space opera, what do you expect? Tons of glowing aliens? Flying cars racing through futuristic cityscapes? Heroes jumping between moving vehicles while being chased by monstrous creatures? If so, then make sure Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is on your most anticipated list.
Aquaman Takes a Dip in New ‘Justice League’ Footage Teasing Second Trailer This Weekend
It’s finally spring, or at least according to the calendars we’re three days into spring despite what the weather is telling us. And what do we all want to do when the seasons finally turn warm? Take a tip in the ocean, of course. That’s probably what’s on Aquaman’s mind in the new footage Warner Bros. dropped on TV this week to tease the upcoming Justice League trailer.
‘Power Rangers’ Review: A Surprisingly Fun Superhero Reboot
The joy of the Power Rangers TV series was how campy it was. It was pure fun to watch teenagers jump around in nerdy spandex suits, fly giant robot machines, and fight ridiculous monsters (one was called Mr. Ticklesneezer, another was, I kid you not, Chunky Chicken). To make a modern Power Rangers movie you can either embody that wacky spirit, scrap it for a gritty reboot, or try to do both with middling results. Saban’s Power Rangers takes the latter route, updating the ‘90s series as an edgier, darker origin story with shards of silliness. The problem is, Power Rangers is never quite sure if it wants to distance itself from the source material or embrace it.
A Teenager Finds A Mysterious Notebook In First Teaser for Netflix’s ‘Death Note’
What would you do if you mysterious notebook fell into your hands and gave you the power to kill anyone? Maybe you’d write the name of a high school enemy or a crappy ex in the notebook just for giggles, then realizing its murderous magic is for real, quickly toss it out the window and run away. But for Light Turner, he decides to use that notebook for all the power it gives him.
Warner Bros. Pushes Back ‘Aquaman’ Release Date To Christmas 2018
You’re going to have to hold your breath for a whole two extra months before Jason Momoa’s Aquaman makes his solo debut.
‘Wonder Woman’ Takes a Knee in New Gorgeous Sun-Soaked Poster
Wonder Woman may have some of the most gorgeous superhero posters of all time. The first poster, revealed last summer, saw Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince standing amongst a cloudy blue sky and pluming orange smoke. Those same burnt orange and red hues make up the visuals of the latest poster for the upcoming DC movie.
Charlize Theron Gets Her Own ‘John Wick’ as a Killing Machine in ‘Atomic Blonde’ Restricted Trailer
Teasers trailer and trailers for trailers are often superfluous and repetitive. But when Universal dropped two brief looks at Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde earlier this week, I was HYPED. Now the first full trailer has arrived, a restricted NSFW version that has a couple of F-bombs and a sex scene. How awesome is the above trailer? I kid you not, I squealed at my computer screen for about three-fourths of it. Then I watched it again. I’ll let you do the same, come back once you’ve finished.
Charlize Theron Is a Deadly Spy in First ‘Atomic Blonde’ Teasers and Photos
In Summer of 2015 we entered the era of Charlize Theron, Badass Action Star, and that was only the beginning. Following her Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road, Theron is on her way to becoming the ruthless action hero the movies need with her villain in the upcoming The Fate of the Furious and now Atomic Blonde.
Star-Lord Meets His Dad In the New ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ Trailer
More space battles, more Chris Pratt banter, and plenty of adorable moments with Baby Groot, all to the soundtrack of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain.” What more could you ask for from the new trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2?
