The recently ended Shakespearean motorcycle drama Sons of Anarchy will ride again in comics. Boom Studios has announced a prequel to the FX television series, Redwood Original, starting this August.

According to The Hollywood Reporter the new series will be written by Ollie Masters, best known for The Kitchen and Snow Blind, and drawn by Luca Pizarri, with oversight by series creator Kurt Sutter. Masters said to THR that his series will focus on series main character Jax Teller (played by Charlie Hunnam) as he leaves high school and grapples with both his dead father's legacy and the legacy of the Sons of Anarchy motorcycle club, which is taken over by his father's former lieutenant Clay Morrow (played by Ron Perlman) and his mother Gemma (Katie Segal).

Masters told THR, "This is a story about [Jax] proving himself — to the club, to their enemies and allies and to himself. In [the TV series], the shadow of his father looms large over him and it does in our series as well, but for us it's recent history, so it's more of an open wound than a scar being pulled open." He added, "What I've tried to do is think about where they are in that first season, think about how they got there and have that be my outline for the characters."

This isn't the first time Boom has worked with this series. As part of the publisher's overall deal with 20th Century Fox, Boom previously published a 25-issue Anarchy comic set between the show's fifth and sixth seasons and featuring work by creators Ed Brisson and Matias Bergara.
