Andrea Demonakos is one of the many women in comics whose hard work is never properly appreciated. Working as an organizer and coordinator at Emerald City Comicon, then ReedPOP, and named last year as the new festival director for the Vancouver Comic Arts Festival, Demonakos is an integral figure in the comics convention and festival scene, and that gives her a great perspective on the comics community.

ComicsAlliance reached out to Demonakos post-ECCC to find out more about what it takes to run a comic con, why comic conventions are so important for creators, and what advice she has for first-time attendees.

Shelly Bond Launches New 'Black Crown' Imprint At IDW [ECCC '17]

Exciting news from Emerald City Comicon in Seattle, as we learn that Shelly Bond is teaming with IDW for a promising new creator-owned imprint called Black Crown, to launch in October 2017. We don't know any of the books or creators yet, but IDW promises we'll learn all about them at San Diego Comic Con in July.

Boom Studios Arrive At Emerald City Comicon With Variant Covers And More

This weekend in Seattle is Emerald City Comicon, and Boom Studios will be there with a bunch of cool stuff you won't be able to get anywhere else. My personal favorite is an exclusive variant cover for Coady and the Creepies #1 by the book's writer, Liz Prince, which features the eponymous band climbing on Seattle's famous Fremont Troll statue. Best Cosplay Ever (On A Ship): Fan2Sea Comic Con Cruise 2017

The first ever comic convention on a cruise took place last weekend on Royal Caribbean's Brilliance of the Seas sailing from Tampa, Florida, to Cozumel, Mexico. Despite the unusual venue, Fan2Sea featured everything you'd expect from a landlocked con, including panels, signings, parties, screenings and, of course, cosplay.

Being out at sea didn't stop these dedicated cosplayers from pulling out their best looks, often with a strong nautical theme, whether it was a seafaring Deadpool or two, or a watery Disney villain like Ursula or Tamatoa. ComicsAlliance was on the scene, courtesy of Fan2Sea, to capture some of our favorite cosplay on the cruise. This is the best cosplay ever... on a ship!
