Mayhem is one of the coolest indie comics I've ever read. It's feminist, fierce and funny. The colors, the artwork, the characters and the villains --- all of it is so fresh and fun and new. It's the type of book you read and re-read and recommend to everyone. And chances are, you've never seen it before or even heard of it. Writer Caleb Goellner and artist Buster Moody are back with the fifth installment of their self-published comic Task Force Rad Squad this week. If you've never read TFRS (and you should), it's a comedic take on a tokusatsu premise. I wouldn't call it a parody of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers; it's more of an off-kilter character-based story that builds from a similar premise, while taking it in absurd directions that the original never would. Emet Comics Launces 'Fresh Romance Volume 2′ Via Kickstarter

When Emet Comics absorbed Rosy Press, we knew that would lead to more diverse queer romance comics, and quite possibly more of Fresh Romance, the anthology title that first launched back in 2014. And our dreams have come true, with Emet announcing a new Kickstarter campaign to fund Fresh Romance Volume 2, a collection of all new romance stories to be published as five digital issues as well as a print collection.

Creators For Creators Grant Awarded To M. Dean For 'I Am Young' [ECCC '17]

At last year's Image Expo, Image Comics and C. Spike Trotman's Iron Circus Comics announced a fund called Creators For Creators that would provide a grant for talented and undiscovered creators, allowing them the the freedom and flexibility to explore their art.

Yesterday, at the final day of Emerald City Comic Con, the fund announced illustrator and cartoonist M. Dean as the first recipient of the 2017 Creators For Creators grant, for their upcoming project I Am Young.

Artists Pay Homage To A Fallen Friend With 'The Mike Wieringo Tellos Tribute'

When comics artist Mike Wieringo died suddenly in 2007, the industry lost an extraordinary talent and a man who was well loved by many. While best known for his work on The Flash and Fantastic Four with writer Mark Waid, Wieringo also collaborated with writer Todd Dezago on a creator-owned series for Image called Tellos. The fantasy comic starred a young boy named Jarek, and his warrior tiger friend Koj, who shared adventures with a lady pirate, a fox thief, and other vivid characters.

When Wieringo passed away, everyone assumed that we'd seen the last of Tellos. But now, a decade after Wieringo's death, Dezago and a group known as the Secret Friends of Ringo have published a massive two volume graphic novel in tribute to both Tellos and Wieringo.

Shelly Bond Returns To Comics For 'Femme Magnifique' Anthology

Veteran comics editor Shelly Bond is putting together an anthology of comics about 30 women from various fields including politics, science and entertainment. Femme Magnifique is a collaboration with Kristy Miller and Brian Miller of Hi-Fi Colour Design. The plan is for a full-color hardcover book of more than a hundred pages, which will feature thirty stories about powerful women of the past and present.
