You know how every now and then, a comic book company will advertise a new series by saying something like "Because YOU demanded it," but it only delivers on that promise about half the time? Well, this weekend at Comic-Con International in San Diego, IDW and DC announced a book that I have been demanding since about 1987: Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a six issue team-up series from writer James Tynion IV and artist Freddie E. Williams II that promises "wall-to-wall ninja action" in Gotham City.

This is quite literally everything I have ever wanted from comic books.

IDW has actually been publishing crossovers with DC comics for the past few years, including the current Green Lantern/Star Trek miniseries, but a crossover between Batman and the TMNT definitely seems like it's one of the highest profile crossovers that the two companies could produce. Thanks to both the events of the ongoing TMNT series and crossovers like TMNT/Ghostbusters, the book has a pretty established history of dimension-hopping, which seems to be the jump-off point for this particular crossover:

In the ongoing power struggle between the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, General Krang, and the Foot Clan, allegiances have shifted and the battle lines have been drawn. Krang concocts a plan to rid himself of both the Turtles and Shredder by transporting them to another dimension, where they land in the dark and dangerous streets of Gotham City. It isn't long before they encounter Gotham's most famous resident, Batman.  The Caped Crusader may be their only hope of overcoming their enemies and getting back home. But not before they encounter a whole cast of Gotham's most infamous rogues.

It's is worth noting that Tynion and Williams are both probably best known for their work on Batman, with Tynion being one of the writers of Batman Eternal and Williams having a run on Robin a few years ago. To my knowledge, this is the first time either creator has worked on TMNT, but it shouldn't be that difficult to adjust. After all, what if Batman if not a cool but rude leader who also does machines?

Not real big on partying, though.

Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 kicks off in November.
