It’s been a great week for those of us who are really excited for Thor: Ragnarok: between Thor’s new #look, and Jeff Goldblum’s… everything, this movie might be the most entertaining, visuals-wise, Marvel has ever made. And it also might be among the funniest: it’s described as a kind of buddy road trip comedy with Thor and Bruce Banner/Hulk traveling the Universe and stirring up trouble, and Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo historically have some of the funniest moments in the previous Avengers films (“Another!”/“Puny god.”). Couple that with New Zealand’s achingly hysterical Taika Waititi, and you’ve got a pretty potent combo.

This weekend in Seattle is Emerald City Comicon, and Boom Studios will be there with a bunch of cool stuff you won't be able to get anywhere else. My personal favorite is an exclusive variant cover for Coady and the Creepies #1 by the book's writer, Liz Prince, which features the eponymous band climbing on Seattle's famous Fremont Troll statue. The best con-exclusive variants always have a sense of place, but Boom's bringing more than just that.

Odds are that you've heard some pretty good things about a whole host of recent comics from Boom Studios, but for whatever reason you might not have got around to checking them out just yet. Well the publisher just made it a whole lot easier to sample the best of its wares with a line-wide sale on Comixology offering 50% off all Boom titles until Monday.

Imagine you're Jack Burton, driving your bigrig truck around fighting kung fu villains, and suddenly you find yourself in the crime-ridden dystopian future time of 1997, in which the city of Manhattan is a high-security prison. And there's there's a man there, in that future, who looks just like you, except with an eyepatch. A man named Snake Plissken. That's the strange reality we find ourselves in with the announcement of Big Trouble in Little China/Escape from New York, a crossover comic (obviously) coming soon from Boom Studios, written by Greg Pak, with art by Daniel Bayliss.

Listen, I love Big Trouble In Little China more than most people love their children, but I think we all have to admit that in the movie, Miao Yin isn't exactly a great character. She spends almost the entire film kidnapped, and while that's to be expected in a movie made in the grand tradition of '80s action where 90% of the focus is on intentionally half-baked tough guy talk from Kurt Russel, but still. I think she speaks somewhere in the neighborhood of zero words in that movie, and that's a shame. Fortunately, we have comics, and as we all know, comic books fix everything. In this week's BTILC #6, John Carpenter, Eric Powell, Brian Churilla, Lisa Moore and Ed Dukeshire are putting Wang's lady love front and center, kicking off the issue with a scene where she beats the living heck out of a bunch of demons -- who may or may not actually just be kindly merchants.

The last we heard about Boom! Studios' new Big Trouble In Little China comic was back in February, when the publisher wasn't revealing much more than an Eric Powell-drawn teaser image that didn't even show Jack Burton's face. Now, Boom is showing off a lot more in advance of the first issue's June release. Namely, a slew of covers by Powell, Joe Quinones, Chris Weston, Terry Dodson and Emi Yonemur

As of Wednesday, there's nothing to go on but a teaser image, but it appears that Boom! Studios will be publishing a comic based in John Carpenter's 1986 movie Big Trouble in Little China sometime in the near future. The image, which depicts Kurt Russell's character Jack Burton from the very recognizable chin down, is drawn by The Goon creator Eric Powell. It's accompanies by a Jack Burton line fr
