Lobster Johnson stories are always fun, whether it's in the present day where he continues his adventures as a ghost, the past as a pulp hero, or in-between as a fictional character within the Mignolaverse. He's someone you can pretty much do anything with. John Arcudi and Toni Fejzula's upcoming Dark Horse series Dead Inside is the best kind of murder mystery, a locked room murder mystery. To make things even more interesting, it's a locked room murder mystery that takes place inside a county jail, and the guards don't care if the inmates live or die. Ahead of the release of Dead Inside, we've got an exclusive look at Fejzula's black and white character sketches of the characters and convicts of the Mariposa County jail.

It probably shouldn't come as a surprise given the kind of problems that they usually deal with, but as the BPRD barrels towards the conclusion of John Arcudi's eleven-year run on the title --- coming to an end in a mere nine issues --- Dark Horse's favorite paranormal investigators are having a pretty rough time. The Black Flame, the latest incarnation of an ancient evil, is tearing through New York City, and he's got Liz Sherman and Johann Kraus on the ropes. Or, in Johann's case, at the bottom of the Hudson River, which is not really where you want to be if you're a gaseous spirit in a robot body, and exactly where we pick up in the pages of BPRD: Hell on Earth #138. Rumble is a fight comic by writer John Arcudi and artist James Harren. Published by Image Comics, the first issue came out in December 2014. It’s a book that’s hard to describe, but is essentially about a scarecrow monster with a giant sword, his quest for vengeance, and the hapless humans who get caught up in the melee.

This week, Dark Horse announced the plans for the next year of Hellboy and BPRD stories, and while there's something that I think we all expected, there's also one pretty big surprise mixed in there, too.

If you're getting a sense of deja vu right now, that's because you actually have read this article before. Right before the latest volume of Batman: Black & White began back in 2013, ComicsAlliance published a list of the ten best stories in the celebrated anthology series. But the fourth volume was really, really good, and included some stories strong enough to be considered among the very best. Making a new version of that same list with just a few replacements would be cheating you, and require me to read my own writing (ecch). So instead, we're just going to stick with the 'ten best' thing. Here are the highlights from the latest volume of Black & White, and a few that were barely edged out of the first list. Will there be another version of this article after the next volume? You bet your ass. We're gonna stay here until we get this right, people.

Hey, have you folks heard about this Hellboy character? It's okay if you haven't -- there's a big #1 on the cover of this comic I just read, so I assume he's pretty new. Trust me, though, he's a character you're going to want to watch, because despite a name that seems pretty lousy the first time you hear it, this is pretty good stuff. Seriously, though, as much as I love Hellboy and the world of the BPRD (Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense), I'll admit that I haven't been keeping up with the ongoing adventures over the past few years. I'm sure they're good -- I'm sure they're great, because it's rare that Hellboy isn't, and Hellboy In Hell is viewed very favorably here at ComicsAlliance -- but it's one of those situations where I've fallen behind and it's at the point where there's so much I've missed that it's hard to get back into it. And that's exactly why I was looking forward to Hellboy and the BPRD: 1952. On sale now, it tells the story of Hellboy's first assignment with the BPRD, which makes it the perfect jumping-on (or in my case, jumping-back-in) point, and not only is it ridiculously good, but it feels fresh and new in a way that's almost impossible for a 20 year-old franchise to pull off.

In the final few hours before San Diego Comic-Con opened its doors to the public for Preview Night on Wednesday, Image Comics Expo took place in an upstairs ballroom at the nearby San Diego Bayfront Hilton, where the publisher welcomed a group of press, creators, and fans to watch as the company announced, discussed and otherwise promote a great variety of upcoming Image titles.
