It's Star Trek's 50th anniversary and between the well-received Star Trek Beyond, the fact that all of Trek is available streaming basically everywhere, a new TV show coming next year, and the continued release of new novels and comics, it's a good time to be a fan of the USS Enterprise and its brethren. Comics have been a part of Trek lore from almost the very start. Beginning in 1967, when the original Trek was wrapping up its first season on NBC, Gold Key published a series that only had two consistent features: an irregular publishing schedule, and an almost total disregard for how the characters actually looked.

Summer 2016 is about to be dominated by Star Trek fever as we celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the iconic sci-fi franchise and ramp up to the release of the new feature film Star Trek Beyond and more news continues to trickle in surrounding Bryan Fuller's upcoming CBS digital television Star Trek series due next year. IDW are a publisher confident that this wave of momentum will continue following the release of the new film, so much so that they are ending their current Star Trek ongoing series and replacing it with a new series telling the further adventures of the USS Enterprise in the wake of the events in Star Trek Beyond.

This week the fans of DC's TV shows finally get to see the live-action comic book crossover that we've all been waiting for, as Melissa Benoist's Supergirl on CBS gets a visit from a new friend from another reality when The CW's The Flash, played by Grant Gustin, makes his first appearance on her show. We're beyond excited to see what happens when these two DC heroes team-up on the screen, because it looks like the story could capture all the joy of superheroics that sometimes gets lost in other adaptations of the genre. This weekend at Wondercon, IDW and DC Comics announced a new crossover that will send the Green Lantern Corps to the Star Trek Universe in a story titled Spectrum War this July. Written by long-time Star Trek writer Mike Johnson and penciled by Angel Hernández, the miniseries will feature both the current Corps and the current Enterprise crew from the Chris Pine/Karl Urban film era.

The series include the Fight Club sequel from Chuck Palahniuk and Cameron Stewart, a new Hellboy series from Mike Mignola and John Arcudi, and Joëlle Jones and Jamie S. Rich's Lady Killer. Earth 2: World's End will kick off in October, joining the publisher's already-running weekly series, Batman Eternal, and the weekly series The New 52: Futures End, which debuts May 3.
