As the new Captain America: Civil War trailer opens, an roomful of superheroes watch footage of an alien invasion that decimated New York City.

One of the stipulations when Ben Affleck signed on to star in Batman vs. Superman was that his Argo writer, Chris Terrio, would come aboard to help fix the script. Though Terrio was indeed brought in to rewrite the script (originally written by David Goyer), it seems Affleck still was not happy with it. According to a recent report, Affleck spent each day rewriting that day’s scenes until they were up to snuff. Oh, and he did it dressed as Batman.

The latest trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is more like “BATMAN!!!! (And Oh Yeah Superman Too).”

Judging by images alone, you would think that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is actually just a clothing catalogue for privileged vigilantes and alien superheroes. There’s so much pensive staring and gloomy brooding and handsome, chiseled faces in nice jackets and expensive button-ups. All that’s missing is a caption with a price tag and one-click ordering.

Christopher Nolan delivered a solid trilogy of Batman films (okay, two really good Batman movies and a competent sequel we begrudgingly accept) and inspired a wave of gritty blockbuster imitators. His Dark Knight trilogy gave us the best Batman movies since Tim Burton’s time with the iconic superhero, which made fans feel a little skeptical about Zack Snyder and Ben Affleck’s plans for the character. In an attempt to soothe your fears — however reasonable and totally justified they may be — Snyder has revealed that he received Nolan’s blessing for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. So that’s something, right?

Like Quicksilver trying to keep up with the Flash, DC’s movie offerings have lagged far behind Marvel’s Cinematic Universe for almost a decade. But DC and Warner Bros. are stepping up their superhero game in a big way in 2016. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens in just over two months, with Suicide Squad trailing not far behind. After that, the floodgates open: Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, Shazam, and, of course, the Justice League. And that one comes in two parts, in 2017 and 2019. That first Justice League movie isn’t due for another year, but the marketing onslaught is about to kick off, as DC Films just launched its official Facebook page with a very cool piece of artwork: the first official look at the movie Justice League, in concept art form.

There’s no arguing that DC Comics maintains a stronger foothold on TV than Marvel, but 2016 will be a huge year for the former’s cinematic exploits as well. To wit, The CW has arranged two new TV specials for January, the first to preview Arrow-Flash spinoff Legends of Tomorrow, followed by a look at Batman v. Superman’s Justice League future, as well as a brand-new Suicide Squad trailer!

We’ve seen a lot of intimidating glares and one-liners exchanged between Ben Affleck’s Batman and Henry Cavill’s Superman in the Dawn of Justice trailers, but we haven’t seen too much of their actual fighting — you know, the actual Batman v Superman stuff. A new international trailer offers a little previously unreleased footage, featuring some of what the film’s title has promised.
