Back in 2013, Fox tapped Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow to script an X-Force movie, but Deadpool’s development put X-Force on the back burner, and the Merc With a Mouth’s record-breaking box office seems to have made the studio rethink their plans. Bryan Singer basically confirms as much, revealing that not only is Simon Kinberg currently working on a new X-Force screenplay, but that Singer himself pitched a female version of Wolverine — lending credence to recent rumors that X23 will appear in The Wolverine sequel.

Producer Simon Kinberg recently revealed that the next X-Men sequel will take place during the ’90s, which is fairly unsurprising given that it follows the decade-by-decade pattern of the recent trilogy. That doesn’t tell us much about their plans for the next chapter of the X-Men saga, but Bryan Singer has put forth an idea that may give us a hint about where the story is heading.

When Nightcrawler broke into the White House at the start of 2003’s X2, it felt like more than a watershed moment in the history of comic book movies; it felt like a miracle. Here was one of comics’ most fantastical characters — a blue-skinned, three-fingered German demon with a pointy, prehensile tail and teleportation powers — brought to life with all of his outlandish quirks and powers intact, showcased in a sequence that was thrilling and utterly convincing. It was something no one had ever seen before. It was truly uncanny.

Much can change between a movie’s initial trailer and the finished film (like that Anakin Skywalker reference in The Force Awakens). Visual FX will be finalized, scenes may be cut in the editing process to improve the narrative flow, additional footage might be incorporated, and additional dialogue may be recorded. That last one is particularly relevant for X-Men: Apocalypse, as you may have noticed that the titular villain’s voice changed quite a bit between the first trailer and the more recent sneak peeks.

Bryan Singer Says Wolverine Cameo in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Is ‘Birth of a New Direction’
Earlier this week came the X-Men: Apocalypse trailer that confirmed what we all suspected: Wolverine would be making an appearance in the upcoming X-Men movie after all. Most of us also assumed that decision was made because Hugh Jackman is a huge star and Wolverine is the most popular and recognizable of the X-Men and having him in the movie means more $$$. According to director Bryan Singer, it wasn’t about box office, but instead it was the “birth of a new direction” for Wolverine and the X-Men movies.

By now you know pretty much every mutant that’s set to appear in X-Men: Apocalypse, from returning characters like Mystique and Magneto to the younger versions of favorites like Jean Grey and Cyclops. But there’s still plenty we don’t know about, and director Bryan Singer’s latest photo update teases the return of a mutant we’ve seen on the big screen before — like Deadpool, this one also made his debut in the unfortunate X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Grain of salt warning, as this rumor is nowhere near confirmed, but feel free to file it somewhere between “plausible” and “probable.” While Fox has been working to expand their X-Men spinoff films and nurturing Deadpool’s corner of that universe, the studio has yet to announce the next proper X-Men sequel. Bryan Singer has expressed interest in returning to the franchise after he films 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, which means it could be a few years or so before another X-Men movie hits theaters. In the meantime, the latest rumor about the future of X-Men suggests a film that could make some fans pretty happy.

Can a trailer spoil a film if the scenes in question are taken out of context? That’s been an ongoing debate among movie fans for some time, but here’s a new question: Can a trailer itself be spoiled? Well, if this X-Men: Apocalypse rumor is correct (and it probably is), then consider this post a spoiler for the new trailer, which will reportedly arrive online after it premieres this week at Cinema-Con in Las Vegas. The spoiler-sensitive among you should probably turn back now.

Most fans were disappointed (to say the least) by X-Men: The Last Stand, which took one of the most popular X-Men arcs — The Dark Phoenix Saga — and turned it into an Evanescence music video that ultimately did Jean Grey and Scott Summers a major disservice. But Bryan Singer is getting another chance with the beloved mutant couple in X-Men: Apocalypse, which will effectively reboot the characters thanks to that timeline reset in Days of Future Past. Singer shares some thoughts on what we can expect from the newer, younger duo, giving us hope for a little Dark Phoenix redemption.

Hugh Jackman has been rumored to have a part — albeit probably small — in X-Men: Apocalypse for some time. Although the upcoming sequel to The Wolverine will be the actor’s final outing as the iconic X-Men character, there’s still a chance he could appear in Apocalypse, which closes out Bryan Singer’s current trilogy. In addition to maybe-sorta-kinda confirming Jackman’s part in Apocalypse, Singer talks the future of the franchise and his continued involvement in it.
