Although cosplay has been present for decades within the comics, anime, and sci-fi/fantasy fandoms, social media has played an integral role in the thriving communities of costuming that exist, such as Cosplay.com and the Superhero Costuming Forum. Over the years, the cosplay community has evolved into a creative outlet for many fans to establish and showcase some impressive feats of homemade disguise, craftsmanship, and sartorial superheroics at conventions. In honor of the caped crusaders of the convention scene, ComicsAlliance has created Best Cosplay Ever (This Week), an ongoing collection of some of the most impeccable, creative, and clever costumes that we’ve discovered and assembled into a super-showcase of pure fan-devoted talent.

The Women of Marvel Fight Sharks in 'A-Force' #1 [Preview]
We're already quite excited about A-Force, the new Avengers team from writers G. Willow Wilson and Marguerite Bennett, and artist Jorge Molina, that brings together some of Marvel's all-time greatest heroes as perhaps the greatest super-team of all time, including Captain Marvel, Dazzler, America Chavez, Nico Minoru, Spider-Gwen, and She-Hulk. Now we're especially excited because of this unlettered preview that shows them fighting sharks.

On the heels of the incredibly disappointing news that Michelle MacLaren has exited the Wonder Woman film comes some exciting news from the realm of superhero women. Although we won’t officially meet Captain Marvel for a little while, Marvel Studios is already putting talent together for her upcoming solo film. The studio has their eye on Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve, two talented female writers to hopefully pair with a talented female director (hey Marvel, I hear Michelle MacLaren isn’t busy at the moment).

Greatest Best Favorite Avenger Ever: Group H
With Avengers: Age of Ultron just around the corner, interest in these heroes has never been greater, so we’ve decided to pit all the official comic book Avengers against each other in a battle for your affections. Who is the greatest, best, favorite Avenger of all time? Only you can decide. We’ve created voting groups that mix up different eras of Avengers membership. Group H includes a couple of captains, some ex-villains (including a Doom?), a Jack and a knight, and one of Magneto's kids (don't believe the retcons). The top two or three Avengers from each group will go through to the next round, so vote tactically. Or just vote for Carol. We're pretty sure you're going to vote for Carol.

The Great Super-Costume Poll: Mss. Marvel
For day five, we decided to embrace one of our reader's suggestions. It's been said that this site loves Kamala Khan, and it's true, we do love Kamala Khan! What's not to love? So today we're asking you to rate the costumes of the various Mss Marvel --- not just Kamala, but Carol, Carol again, and poor, forgotten Sharon --- plus DC's own "Ms." Marvel, the hero better known as Mary.

The Great Super-Costume Poll: Captains Marvel
For day four, we look at the high-ranking uniforms of the Captains Marvel, with our pick of the best costume for each major character to bear the title --- four of them from Marvel and one from Fawcett (via DC). How does Carol Danvers' cosplay-favorite flight-suit stack up against the big red cheese's fancily embellished union suit?

How Carol Danvers Became Marvel's Biggest Female Hero
Fans of Captain Marvel probably won't tire of being reminded that their hero is getting her own movie, scheduled for a July 6th 2018 release. There's no director, no writer, and no star attached, but the movie has a title and a date, and that alone is progress. Superhero fans have been waiting a long time for a Marvel Studios movie with a female lead. The Captain Marvel movie is due to come out thirteen months after a planned 2017 Wonder Woman movie from Warner Bros, and those two pictures could help usher in a new age for female heroes, if the studios follow through. The Wonder Woman movie was a long time coming, but she's an obvious choice for Warner Bros; she's the definitive female hero, a brand, and an icon, with more than seventy years of history. By contrast, Captain Marvel has been around in her current incarnation for two years. But there are good reasons why she's Marvel's pick for a leading lady.
