Joss Whedon to Direct ‘Batgirl’ Movie for Warner Bros.
Hey Wonder Woman, you’ve got company — good company. Joss Whedon is coming to save the DC movie universe from Zack Snyder’s severe aesthetic, which is like a high school boy’s trapper keeper covered in nu metal band stickers circa 2000. The former Marvel favorite and Avengers director is returning to the superhero genre to write, direct and produce a standalone Batgirl movie for Warner Bros., a much-needed blast of optimism for their dreary DC franchise.
WB Wants Another DC Movie to Begin Filming This Year
With the recent creative changes behind the scenes of The Batman, Ben Affleck’s solo film probably won’t begin filming until 2018, which leaves a bit of a gap in Warner Bros.’ superhero schedule. Earlier this week, the studio pushed Aquaman back two months, pitting it against Sony’s animated Spider-Man movie in December 2018 — and with nothing else on the docket for the rest of the year, that leaves a sizable gap on the DC schedule.
WB Enlists ‘LEGO Batman’ Director for ‘Nightwing’ Movie
In yet another sign that Warner Bros. has learned almost nothing from its recent misfires, the studio has reportedly added a Nightwing project to its upcoming DCEU slate, with The LEGO Batman Movie director Chris McKay in final negotiations to helm. Although the studio recently hit some speed bumps with Ben Affleck’s Batman film, and there are still clearly some (fairly significant) wrinkles being worked out with their superhero universe, it seems that WB is determined to keep plowing through this thing one way or another.
