The Batgirl of Burnside Comes to the World of Funko Pop
When the first Funko Pop arrived in 2010, I don't think there was anyone not under the employ of the company that believed just a scant six years later, Funko would rule the world. Since the line's soft launch with Batman at San Diego Comic-Con back in 2010, Funko has exploded exponentially. I like to joke about how outrageous it is that these little bobbleheaded figures will outlast the human race, but that trivializes just how hard the company has worked to branch out and explore other avenues while Pops continue to dominate the toy landscape. Funko Pops are such a big deal now that when a new character gets announced, it's reason for excitement. Such is the case today, as the creative team behind the Batgirl of Burnside era debuted the all-new Batgirl Pop, which is based on Babs Tarr's and Cameron Stewart's redesign.

Funko is pretty much the ruler of the vinyl collectible game at this point, with lines such as Mystery Minis, Dorbz, and of course the ever-present and rapidly expanding line of Funko Pops that everyone has at least two of. The blind bag formula of the Mystery Minis seems to be working a treat as Funko is going even smaller with the announcement of a new line of 1.5" collectibles dubbed Pint Sized Heroes. The new line takes what everyone loves about Pops and Dorbz and combines them, while featuring the blind bag aspect of Mystery Minis to create something totally new and even cuter.

There's a new Marvel movie on the horizon, so that means there are also new Funko collectibles looming ahead as well. It's a foregone conclusion at this point that if a thing exists, it will have a Funko toy of some sort. I can't think of a single other solitary company that provides as many figures and bobbleheads for many disparate properties. Funko's hands are literally in everything. Now, you can count on them bringing you all the Doctor Strange goodies you can possibly handle.

The DC Legion of Collectors subscription box pushed things into overdrive this month with the Suicide Squad-themed box. Though Funko has yet to put any attention on the comic book side of the DC brand (the upcoming Women of DC box should fix that), the offerings tied to the cinematic side of things haven't been a disappointment. If anything, the Legion of Collectors has been on an upward path since inception, improving upon each release with new goods and more variation than the other two sub boxes Funko currently offers. That's doubly true here as the Suicide Squad Legion of Collectors box introduced an entirely new and exclusive action figure line. Of course, the standard fare is also still included, so don't worry about missing out on that patch, pin, t-shirt and Pop. Before covering all the good inside though, it's worth mentioning that this month our box was absent the exclusive variant comic of the original Suicide Squad #1. A small oversight that in no way ruined the rest of the contents, especially given the lack of mistakes we've experienced across the rest of the company's sub boxes. Still, would have been nice to enjoy the earliest adventures of DC's most reluctant heroes.

This month, the ladies of the Marvel Universe take center stage in the Marvel Collector Corps subscription box from Funko. It only took eight boxes to do it. I kid, I kid. Mostly. With the exception of Jane Foster's Thor in the Secret Wars box, we've been absent the likes of Marvel's biggest names on the female side of the company's roster. The contents of this box were certainly worth the wait however, as Captain Marvel, She-Hulk and Squirrel Girl all get some nice new merchandise. Why it took a special box for any of them to appear is something only Funko and Marvel know, but they're here now, so let's take a look inside this month's crate.

I've heard it said there are few definitives in life beyond death and taxes, but you can probably throw Funko making Pops of something in there really soon, if you haven't already. The company's reach far exceeds what I'm sure anyone expected from Funko when the Pops first appeared as Funko Force 2.0 at San Diego Comic-Con 2010. In just six years, the Pop line has multiplied exponentially, and it seems that Funko can hardly even keep up with the demand. That doesn't stop 'em from trying though, as you can hardly make it through a day without Funko announcing at least one new property joining the fold. While we did know Suicide Squad collectibles were in the works, we didn't really have an idea of just how far Funko's rabbit hole went when it came to the upcoming Warner Bros. film based on the DC Comics characters. Needless to say, if you like Harley Quinn and the Joker, as portrayed by Margot Robbie and Jared Leto respectively, then you are going to have a lot of little deformed versions of those characters to buy this year.

Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's Preacher is the new biggest show on televison, and its debut episode on AMC this week has everyone talking about Jesse Custer and the town of Annville, Texas. It seems all popular television shows and films these days receive a line of Funko Pop vinyl figures at some point, and Preacher is no exception, but the upcoming line of three is missing one major character.

Funko's second Legion of Collectors subscription box brings all your favorite characters from DC's television universes together mostly in time for their season finales. Though Supergirl ended in April, The Flash, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow are all nearing wrap dates on their respective seasons. Thus far, Funko's DC efforts have all been tied to the cinema or television worlds, and that trend will continue into the next box, which is themed around Suicide Squad. You would think eventually Funko will get around to linking these boxes to the comic universe (as they have with Marvel a few times), but perhaps it's for the best to focus on the one consistent constant in DC's stable right now and hit up the Rebirth Universe later. For now, all we actually have is the DC TV box, and it's pretty good.

Funko's Impopsters Line Re-imagines Batman's Rogues as the Dark Knight
I'm not entirely sure how I feel about Funko's latest Pop figure line, Impopsters (I'm also not sure about that brand name, but what do I know?). On one hand, putting some (slightly) new spins on characters that have been around for decades is cool, and it lets Funko get a little creative with the standard form bodies they've been using to create hundreds and hundreds of collectibles. But I'm also not wild about just Batmanning the Dark Knight's rogues gallery. The concept certainly makes sense though. People love Batman and his big bads, so why not combine them into one thing? Impopsters is just the latest in a long line of Funko's attempts to shake up the game with miniature, budget vinyl collectibles. While I wonder if this was the series of collectibles Funko alluded to in the most recent Marvel Collector Corps, I'm definitely wondering what the Marvel versions of these are going to look like. Oh, that's right. Impopsters won't just be limited this Batman series. Funko apparently has designs on the rest of the DCU and Marvel Comics, too.
