We thought perhaps Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. might wait an episode or two to reveal Ghost Rider in all his fiery glory, but who needs patience in Season 4? The first official photo of Robbie Reyes transformed into the Spirit of Vengeance is here, and it’s … uh, it’s fine.

Well, if we were hoping the addition of Ghost Rider and a 10:00 P.M. time slot would take Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. a little darker, the first Season 4 footage will really light your fire. Ghost Rider is out for vengeance in the first footage, even attaching himself as a subtitle for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4.

It could be some time yet before any real Ghost Rider finally speeds through Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4, but with a September 20 premiere fast approaching, we can barely keep from catching fire. Now, just weeks before Season 4 debuts, our first synopsis for September premiere “The Ghost” reveals a Fear The Walking Dead star in a major Ghost-adjacent role.

Our first look at Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s take on Marvel’s Ghost Rider was curiously lacking in either ghosts or riding, but the ABC drama is starting to make up for it. A new “found footage” teaser catches the rider speeding away from the scene, and already making a name for himself.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has typically stuck with pared-down versions of its most outlandish comic characters, something the upcoming inclusion of Gabriel Luna’s Ghost Rider has built-in. As such, our first look at the new spirit of vengeance is neither spirit, nor vengeance-seeking, but sure looks like Gabriel Luna!

More often than not, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. makes use of Marvel characters the movies would never get around to. That’s why no one was particularly surprised that Season 4's introduction of Ghost Rider would use the less-familiar Robbie Reyes version over Johnny Blaze, but according to EPs, Blaze was at least on the table.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. opting to include an iteration of Ghost Rider in Season 4 opens any number of doors for new Marvel characters, but comic fans may also have picked up on Robbie Reyes’ connection to Daisy Johnson’s father, played in Season 2 by Kyle MacLachlan. Agents bosses have their own spin on the new Ghost Rider’s origin, but will we see Daisy’s dad return this year?

Even as Ghost Rider prepares to light up Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4, it could be time yet before Marvel’s Avengers-adjacent drama shows us the fully-realized flaming skull. At the very least, the new Spirit of Vengeance still has a sweet ride, now seen cruising around set with a precarious-looking Daisy Johnson hanging on for dear life.

Last month, Marvel announced a whole slew of titles that fall under the new Marvel Now banner, but it seems one of them may have slipped through the cracks. Today, the publisher has announced a new ongoing Ghost Rider title once again starring Robbie Reyes as the flame-headed vengeance seeking anti-hero.
