Sarah Stern is an up-and-coming talent in the world of comics. She primarily provides color art for comics like Goldie Vance and Brave Chef Brianna, but she's also created storyboards for animation, and recently created a webcomic, Cindersong, which she writes, illustrates, and colors herself. ComicsAlliance had the chance to talk to Stern at Emerald City Comicon, where we nerded out about how the heck colorists create magic on the page, and talked about fantasy worldbuilding and making friends in the comics world.

It’s that blessed time of the year where we all try to take stock of what we’ve done with our lives and what other people have created that we enjoyed. That’s right, it’s time to start putting together our “Best of 2016″ lists, and today we’re going to take a look at the Best Boom Studios Covers of 2016.

These last couple years have felt like a pretty great time to be a queer comics fan. LGBTQ themes in comics have moved from the fringe to (almost?) the mainstream, but that doesn't mean the fringe has stopped doing great things too. Whether you love superheroes, fantasy, drama, or slice of life stories, there's almost certainly a queer comic out there that's perfect for you, or your friend or partner!

Odds are that you've heard some pretty good things about a whole host of recent comics from Boom Studios, but for whatever reason you might not have got around to checking them out just yet. This week we're dream-casting a movie based on a really great all-ages comic that just started its second arc at Boom Studios, Goldie Vance by Hope Larson and Brittney Williams. It's teen detective story centered on the title character, whose father manages a resort hotel in Florida, in a world that looks a lot like the early 1960s.
