Good Thing: The Honesty Of The 'Lego Batman Movie' Songs
The Lego Batman Movie is the perfect film to escape into for ninety minutes, and its message of friendship, co-operation, and teamwork is downright inspiring. A lot of the film's emotional strength is reflected in its original songs, including the touching "I Found You," which features the cherubic Dick Grayson recounting the happiness he discovered in his adopted family.

Jory And Hunter Take The Next Step In 'Backstagers' #6
Boom’s Backstagers is one of my favorite comics to premiere in the last year. Ryan Sigh’s lineart and Walter Baiamonte's colors bring the weird, gorgeous magical backstage world to life, but it’s also worth highlighting James Tynion IV’s writing, particularly his focus on overt, in-canon queer representation. Before Backstagers #7 comes out on February 22, I want to take note of the loveliness that is Backstagers #6, published in January. Spoilers for #6, and for the series as a whole, below.

Through punchy voice lines, bold designs, and a sparing use of canon lore, Blizzard has crafted Overwatch characters that reach fans in a way that fosters creativity and reinterpretation. A single line reading between characters is enough to send avalanches through Overwatch's vibrant and prolific fan community. One such member of that community is artist Julia Reck, whose Overwatch Instagram series captures the game's iconic heroes when they're not defending the payload (or, more precisely, when they're not not defending the payload).

Good Thing: Mahershala Ali's Incredible Year
Mahershala Ali has been in just about every great thing over the past twelve months. Netflix fans probably first noticed his work in House of Cards on Netflix, in which he played lobbyist and presidential chief-of-staff Remy Danton opposite Kevin Spacey's unctuous Francis Underwood. That's a scary enough proposition for even a veteran actor, but Ali gave a stellar performance, and followed it up by being easily the best thing about another Netflix series, Luke Cage. Ali has established himself as an intriguing and formidable force, and a name to keep an eye on throughout 2017. And I'm loving every moment of it.

Good Thing: Women's Wrestling Dominates 'Elimination Chamber'
The long-promised "Women's Revolution" in wrestling may finally take root this weekend. Sunday February 12 is the Elimination Chamber live event on the WWE Network, the first branded Pay-Per-View (a colloquial word these days, but one that's stuck) for Smackdown Live in 2017. Of the seven matches announced for the show, three are women's singles matches. In fact, there's only one men's singles match, with the other three being multi-man gimmick matches, including the titular main event in the elimination chamber. And that's a big deal.

The 'JoJo's Bizarre Adventure' Movie Is Going To Be Amazing
In the long-running manga series JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, author Hirohiko Araki tells the story of the flamboyant Joestar family and their battle with supernatural forces across multiple generations. With more than a hundred volumes across thirty years, the series has become a Japanese pop culture icon, so it's no surprise that a movie is in the works from Warner Bros and Toho, the production company behind the Godzilla movies. What is surprising is that they landed the perfect superstar director for the gig; Takashi Miike.

Meet The Nazi-Hunting Arab Hero Of Ibrahim Moustafa's 'Jaeger'
There might never be a more perfect time to read Jaeger, the digital comic by Ibrahim Moustafa, published on the Stela app. It's a spy story in the mold of James Bond, only its protagonist is an Arab chasing down the Nazis who imprisoned him. The Nazis talk of the myth of Der Jaeger --- The Hunter --- even as our hero Idris tracks them one by one, leading up to the man he hates the most, Kammler. It's a therapeutic, heart-wrenching, white-knuckle story that moves at breakneck pace.

Good Thing: Superman Beating Up Cybernetic White Supremacists
The best idea from the New 52 relaunch of Superman continues to endure, in fan consciousness if not in continuity; Superman as social crusader, taking on the ills of our world that have been elevated to human-plus levels, including one of the most virulent evils of our world: white supremacists.

Good Thing: The Defiance Of J. L. Meyer's Wonder Woman Bunny
Jennifer L. Meyer is an amazing artist who specializes in drawing animals; often anthropomorphized ones. She’s illustrated picture books, chapter books, and comics, working with companies like Scholastic, IDW, First Second, and Dark Horse. Last week, Meyer delighted the denizens of Twitter when dug up an old Wonder Woman bunny pencil sketch and shared it with her followers --- and then followed it up with more Wonder Woman bunny sketches.
