The House of Mouse has finally done it: Disney Infinity 3.0 will unite Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars characters under one roof for some massive adventures.
Disney has confirmed with Game Informer that Star Wars is coming to Disney Infinity 3.0, adding our favorite faces from a galaxy far, far away to the series. Avalanche Software will be making figures and in-game adventures spanning both the original and prequel trilogies. The studio will also be signing on other developers to work on Disney Infinity 3.0's various toy packs and multi-console releases. For example, the DmC: Devil May Cry team at Ninja Theory will be making the Twilight of the Republic playset, which will star Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka in a story set between Episodes II and III. Able to interact with this set will be the Darth Maul, Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi figures (each sold separately).

Thrillbent, the digital comics publishing website founded by writers Mark Waid and John Rogers, has spent the past two years offering up free comics for pretty much free.
In a Wednesday blog post, Waid unveiled what he's calling "Thrillbent 3.0," which adds another layer of content that Waid is calling a sort of "Hulu Plus of comics." Fans can pay a $3.99 monthly fee -- about as much as the cover price for most Marvel single issues -- to access a collection of titles including a revived version of Waid, Barry Kitson and Chris Sotomayor's Gorilla Comics/DC series Empire. There's also a free new app available for iOS that gives fans mobile access to the material.

Yesterday DC Comics launched its new Batman: Arkham Origins - A DC Comics MultiVerse Graphic Novel app, which serves as a choose-your-own-adventure style motion comic prequel to WB Games Montreal's video game of the same name. Befitting of its status as a video game tie-in, this is a "freemium" experience. You download a free 8-page setup before reaching a fork in the narrative road and pay more (it's being serialized, you see) for the full range of story content as it's released. As a bonus, readers who pay to read halfway through the story get a code to unlock a new playable skin in the Origins game. Those who pay for a season pass get the first skin, plus an additional costume for Batman to wear.
In an interview with Wired, Hank Kanalz, SVP of Integrated Publishing at DC Comics, characterized the effort as an experiment. Financially, this model could prove to be a success -- especially with its downloadable content (DLC) incentives for hardcore gamers. Creatively? So far it leaves something to be desired.
