This weekend in Seattle is Emerald City Comicon, and Boom Studios will be there with a bunch of cool stuff you won't be able to get anywhere else. My personal favorite is an exclusive variant cover for Coady and the Creepies #1 by the book's writer, Liz Prince, which features the eponymous band climbing on Seattle's famous Fremont Troll statue. The best con-exclusive variants always have a sense of place, but Boom's bringing more than just that.

If there's one thing that we can all agree on, surely it's the fact that we are all living in an amazing golden age of high-end movie posters. Between official releases from studios like Mondo and Phantom City Creative and the kinds of prints you can see from artists at conventions, there are so many beautiful posters out there that it's almost tempting to buy a bigger house just so that you have the wall space to display them all. And today, Grey Matter Art is releasing one of the coolest I've ever seen: Matt Ferguson's new screen-printed poster for John Carpenter's classic Escape From New York. And not only is there a standard regular version, there's also a limited variant that glows in the dark --- and a 1" United States Police Force pin that's inserted into random orders.

Listen, I love Big Trouble In Little China more than most people love their children, but I think we all have to admit that in the movie, Miao Yin isn't exactly a great character. She spends almost the entire film kidnapped, and while that's to be expected in a movie made in the grand tradition of '80s action where 90% of the focus is on intentionally half-baked tough guy talk from Kurt Russel, but still. I think she speaks somewhere in the neighborhood of zero words in that movie, and that's a shame. Fortunately, we have comics, and as we all know, comic books fix everything. In this week's BTILC #6, John Carpenter, Eric Powell, Brian Churilla, Lisa Moore and Ed Dukeshire are putting Wang's lady love front and center, kicking off the issue with a scene where she beats the living heck out of a bunch of demons -- who may or may not actually just be kindly merchants.

Next month Boom Studios releases the first issue of Escape From New York, the latest title from the publisher to present a sequel to one of John Carpenter's cult-classic '80s movies -- following on the heels of the popular Big Trouble In Little China series. The publisher has hand-picked an excellent creative team to follow in the film's footsteps and put Snake Plissken through his post-apocalyptic paces, in the form of Eisner-nominated High Crimes writer Christopher Sebela and acclaimed Irredeemable artist Diego Barreto. ComicsAlliance spoke to Sebela about his plans for the book, his affinity for the source material, and the experience of adapting such a well-loved property to the comics medium.
