The curiously-odd-but-surprisingly-obvious franchise crossover is all the rage in comics right now, but Dynamite Entertainment might have just set the bar at a new level. This June, Chris Sebela teams with Annapaola Martello for KISS/Vampirella, which sees the iconic vampire hunter teaming up with the legendary rock band for an adventure set slap-bang in the middle of the '70s LA rock 'n' roll scene.

Music and comics have a long history of influencing one another, whether it’s story titles borrowing lyrics, band names taken from dialogue, or that one time that Matt Fraction had a Britney Spears analogue punch a bear in The Order. Sometimes, though, that connection goes beyond nods and winks, and a band or artist releases their very own licensed comic. It happens more often than you probably realise. It’s no secret that, say, My Chemical Romance have their own official comic. (A comic, lest we forget, featuring a villainous cravat-wearing Grant Morrison.) One day, every pop-culture property will team up with every other pop-culture property. We're getting there bit by bit. Case in point: Sometimes-comics stars KISS and the Scooby-Doo team will join forces in a new animated feature, Scooby-Doo! and Kiss: Rock and Roll Mystery, which will be out on Blu-ray and DVD July and on digital on-demand services a little earlier, July 10.
