Look! Up in the sky! It’s bad acting!

If you’ve seen 300, then you’re very familiar with the Spartan soldiers’ costumes: A helmet, a cape, a shield, and not a whole lot else. Among those Spartans, only one, Gerard Butler’s King Leonidas, has a helmet with a plume on it. Did you know that the real historical Spartans all had plumes on their helmets? Director Zack Snyder decided to change that detail in order to make Leonidas stand out, and easier to identify in the midst of the film’s battle scenes. When Nightcrawler broke into the White House at the start of 2003’s X2, it felt like more than a watershed moment in the history of comic book movies; it felt like a miracle. Here was one of comics’ most fantastical characters — a blue-skinned, three-fingered German demon with a pointy, prehensile tail and teleportation powers — brought to life with all of his outlandish quirks and powers intact, showcased in a sequence that was thrilling and utterly convincing. It was something no one had ever seen before. It was truly uncanny.

We have a pretty stacked summer ahead of us, kicking off in May with Captain America: Civil War, followed by the (hopefully) equally epic X-Men: Apocalypse. The mutants of First Class and Days of Future Past are no longer the new kids on the block, as younger versions of Jean Grey, Scott Summers and more are getting in on the action in the upcoming sequel. Not to be outdone by the many Captain America posters, X-Men: Apocalypse has released a brand new poster highlighting the film’s villains.

As teased in the post-credits sting of X-Men: Days of Future Past, Apocalypse is coming and he’s bringing his four horsemen — okay, not the four horsemen we saw in that teaser scene, but a new set of horsemen: Magneto, Psylocke, Storm and Angel. 20th Century Fox has revealed some new photos of the characters who will play accessory to Oscar Isaac’s titular baddie, while some additional details have emerged about their role in X-Men: Apocalypse.
