Since acquiring licenses for both DC and Marvel Super-Heroes, Lego has been slowly expanding its line from iconic heroes like Superman and Spider-Man to more beloved fan-favorites such as Scarlet Spider and Captain Marvel. Next year sees the arrival of a few familar faces from the Hulk family of characters as the Green and Red sides go to war.

John Byrne is a controversial figure in comics, all the more so as he's moved to disavow his work with mainstream publishers, yet his legacy within the industry is undeniable, and his contributions to iconic franchise properties and to early creator-owned independent work are worthy of celebration. Born on this day in 1950, John Byrne moved from England to Canada at the age of eight, and it was here that he first encountered American superhero comics. He enrolled in --- but dropped out of --- the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary, and began contributing to Roger Stern and Bob Layton’s Contemporary Pictoral Literature. Their character Rog-2000 was spotted by Charlton Comics, and the team began contributing back-up stories in the pages of E-Man.

This month, the ladies of the Marvel Universe take center stage in the Marvel Collector Corps subscription box from Funko. It only took eight boxes to do it. I kid, I kid. Mostly. With the exception of Jane Foster's Thor in the Secret Wars box, we've been absent the likes of Marvel's biggest names on the female side of the company's roster. The contents of this box were certainly worth the wait however, as Captain Marvel, She-Hulk and Squirrel Girl all get some nice new merchandise. Why it took a special box for any of them to appear is something only Funko and Marvel know, but they're here now, so let's take a look inside this month's crate.

Civil War II is upon us, and all of our favorite Marvel books are going to be subsumed by a conflict that pits hero against hero, sister against brother, and Avenger against Avenger. To keep track of the moral quagmire, we at ComicsAlliance will be following events closely to determine which side is right in this ethically grey debate. This first month sees the playing field established with two prelude issues and today’s big, life-altering Civil War II #1. New characters are introduced, classic characters die, and lines are drawn in the sand as the principal players take their positions and prepare for war.

Civil War II is right around the corner, and as is tradition with a big summer event, someone is going to die. A beloved character’s upcoming demise has been one of Marvel’s big selling points for Civil War II, and speculation has been running rampant concerning which hero might bite the dust. By rifling through Marvel’s upcoming solicitations for May, June and July, it seems there are a couple of very likely candidates for Civil War II’s big death. We’ve rounded up the evidence and put together a compelling case that points towards one fan-favorite in particular as this year's most likely summer sacrifice. (Note that this article contains speculation that could spoil the events of Civil War II.)

The greatest challenge the world faces today is the overpopulation of Funko Pops. Soon we will all be outnumbered by the little plastic caricatures, and there will be no one left to stop the invading masses of collectible characters. But that's a problem for tomorrow's children's children to solve. I'll be dead by then, and right now there's a lot of Funko figures to collect. Funko officially revealed the release window for the next wave of Marvel Pops, a few of which were teased during Toy Fair last month. Finally, Captain Marvel will be able to rally the baby bobblehead version of the Carol Corps. The unmasked version being the default means there's plenty of room for a helmeted variant down the line, too. She'll be joined by Marvel's newest leading lady du jour, Spider-Gwen. The world needs more Captain Marvel and Spider-Gwen figures. It's a plain and simple fact, and one only a handful of companies seem to recognize.

Rumors have circulated over the last few weeks that a Punisher show on Netflix may be on the cards, spinning out of Jon Bernthal's performance in the upcoming second season of Daredevil, while previous rumors suggested that the platform might deliver a Moon Knight show. The first raft of Marvel Netlix shows is less than halfway through launching, and Netflix boss Ted Sarandon has said that further shows are possible, but there are no current plans to do more than a couple of shows a year. 'Phase Two' of Marvel's Netflix plans may be a few years away. But that won't stop us speculating wildly on the shows we'd like to see if the platform does pursue a more aggressive Marvel strategy and move beyond the current line up of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. So in the spirit of wishful thinking, we asked our contributors the question; Which Marvel property would you like to see turned into a Netflix show?

I had absolutely no interest in Marvel’s Gwenpool Special #1 when it was announced. I like Spider-Gwen a whole lot, but what looked like essentially a gender-bent Deadpool in pink? Yeah, the best I could come up with was a shrug at the news that this random mash-up character would be getting a holiday issue. Which is why I’m quite honestly shocked that I liked Gwenpool Special #1. I liked it a lot. It’s a real Christmas miracle, people.
