Angouleme International Festival Of Comics Announces Official Selections For 2017
The Angouleme International Festival Of Comics is one of the most prestigious awards ceremonies in the comic book industry, and every year ahead of the festival it releases an official selection of the comics eligible for its awards, including Best Album and the Angouleme Essentials. Today, the festival announced its picks for the 2017 festival, which include several American independent comics such as Saga, Lazarus and Jupiter's Legacy.
The festival is seeking to regroup after a somewhat calamitous 2016, which saw organizers come under fire for selecting no female entrants for the prestigious Grand Prix award. On the night of the event itself, entrants were told they had won in certain categories only to find out it was a cruel prank by the host. This year's festival is under new management, with a new artistic director, so hopefully it goes smoother when the awards are presented in the final weekend of January.
Here is the full list of selections. More information on each selection can be found at Angouleme's website, although it is in French.
